Help me please!!

I have a 2004 mustang, and im interested in putting dual exhausts on it. i got a cobra set for free from a friend who parted his mustang out. mine however is the v6 and im not sure if it will work. my mechanic told me he wasnt sure if it would work, and that he recommends getting the GT exhaust. I'm just curious as to if it's possible to use the cobra exhaust I already have.

Re: Help me please!!

Welcome to the site. If it's an exhaust from a 1999-04 cobra you can use the mufflers, the tailpipes are routed different on the cobra. 98 cobra & below you can make the system work with some minor mods.

welcome :thumbs2:

Yah big show's right, most of it can work with the exception of the tailpipes. The 99-04 cobras have an independent rear suspension (IRS), where the v6, GT, 94-98 cobras, mach 1's, and bullitts have a solid rear axle.

For the price of "free", you can certainly make the cobra exhaust work, or at least use the mufflers and midpipe. One thing to remember is that the Cobra exhaust is 2.5" (thanks Purevenom ) while your stock exhaust is 2.25".

Re: Help me please!!

99-04 cobra exhaust (or heck 99+ cobra exhaust) will not work, dont even bother just sell it.

If its previous its the same as a GT catback~ but you will have to cut/weld on connections to bolt it up along with exhaust hangers and adjust them to be below the bumper~

Re: Help me please!!

thanks guys! i probably will just sell it now. probably ebay it! one more question. i've been looking to trade my mustang in. i dont really WANT to, because mine has exceptionally low miles due to the previous owner ( it only has 30k, and its an 04) but i drive a lot more than he did. i know i need new tires, engine all works great, for now at least. But I've recently seen a 2008 that's caught my eye. gorgeous car, its a bright red convertible. GT model, leather interior, pretty much anyones dream car. BUT it has 42k on it. it's listed at a decent price but should i be worried? is there certain things that tend to go wrong on newer models? thanks for all the help!
