Greetings from soggy Oregon and the Wilamette Valley. Found this site while seqrching for info to trouble shoot my wifes 86 Mercury Capri 5.0. We got this rig last year from my drag racing cousin's son, as it was his project street/bracket car.
It started life as a Washington State Patrol Car and the trooper who drove it bought it from the State when they surplused it, and set it up as a bracket racer. My Cousins son bought it from him and converted it from EFI to N.A. and put a carter Carb on top of an Edelbrck 289 performer manifold, mallory ignition, headers and 4" exhaust and no cats, Car has been lowered 1.5", and has launch bars and air bags on the rear. It currently has 196,000 miles and other than a new timing chain set a year or so ago, the motor is stock. Uses a little oil but runs solid and is a kick in the pants to drive. Its kind of a head turner around our area, especailly when they hear the exhaust note when you wick it up a little. here are some pics. Totally different from our other hot rod, a 1987 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z running 14 psi of boost.
