Newbie from MS

Hey everybody,

New to this forum and new to mustangs. Just bought my wife a 2010 candy red vert v6. Would have rather had the GT, but it is her car. Hope to get some good ideas and advise from this forum. Already added the GT rear valance and duals with and x pipe and GT mufflers. Currently working on a double DIN bezel so that I can add a nav unit for her and get rid of that stock crap system.
My car is a 2004 tripple black corvette convertible, and I love it, but I have to say that I love the mustang as well. Not as much power, but plenty for what she needs, and if I can sneak a few things in without her knowing it, it will have more power soon.

welcome :thumbs2:

Sounds like a nice 2010. Exhaust is a good start...subtle, yet noticeable.
Is that C5 the 6spd or auto?

Just the factory supercharger, nothing special. I'll let ya know next time we're heading that direction lol.

Hopefully the weather will start cooperating here soon and get show season starting again, just sad the 1/4 mile is gone up here.

Thanks, keep me posted. Wouldn't mind coming out and watching some races. Not sure what you mean by the 1/4 mile is gone up here.

What is the hp on your cobra? Really nice looking car, and obviously it is fast.

Thanks to everyone for the welcome.

This made me laugh.

I thought 2010 was already a double DIN?

Re: Newbie from MS

2010 is not a "true" double DIN unless you get the OE navigation option. The base stereo and the shaker stereo are both behind a solid bezel with cutouts for different functions(volume/tuning). I attached a picture. The 2009, I think were already a DD, but not the 2010.

Re: Newbie from MS

Wow I didn't know they changed the radio again, I figured it would have been just an older DDIN w/o Navi. Reminds me of the Mitsu. Eclipse Rockford Fosgate radios :shudders:

If you could wait I'm sure Metra will have a new trim piece for aftermarket stuff, but a little bit more money.

Re: Newbie from MS

There is actually a company called auto toys I think that has one out now, but they put the DD opening at the bottom, right in front of the shifter. Not a good place. I actually have a guy over on the corvette forum that is going to modify a bezel to the double din for me, he did one for my c5 vette and it looks great. I just need to find out some info on how these cars are wired, are they all wired to accept all options whether they are installed on the car or not, or are they wired specifically for the options on the car. I have two GMC trucks and neither came with factory nav, but the plug for the bose radio worked on the OE nav unit, even thought the dealerships told me that the wiring was not there. What I am trying to do is use the OE Nav bezel that would accept an aftermarket nav unit, but I would have to replace my single heat and a/c control with the dual zone control to fill up the hole. Otherwise, he will just cut out the Double DIN opening under the message center and mold everything. By the way, that "sneaking things in" thing is kinda funny.

Re: Newbie from MS

I haven't been behind the radio of a 2010 yet so I can't say for certain that all the wiring is there, but usually manufacturers keep the same wiring and only use the "plugs" they need. This is what I've encountered so far. For example I've been through a lot of GMs with OnStar and even though the subscription expired or the owners don't use it; GM goes through the radio with it (to dim the audio when it comes on) so I'd have to use a special harness (extra $100) just so everything would work together.

It's a lot easier to upgrade then downgrade/swap high end - to - high end. It just sucks starting from scratch.

It sounds like it's going to be awesome though

Memphis Motorsports Park closed down last year. Next closest 1/4 mile track is now 4+ hours away...which sucks.

Car made 490/490 at the tuning session. Numbers can be deceiving however.

Re: Newbie from MS

Not that deceiveing! Thats a lot of power for that size car. I think I will just watch and keep my pride in tact. I forgot about them shutting down, that is a shame, I did the race on driving there a couple of years ago. It was a nice place.

My 'vette used to be my daily driver. It gets to spend a lot more time in the garage, now.

Whoops. Quoted the wrong post.

I could leave mine in the garage, but it is just too much fun to drive. OT!
