1998 Mustang GT Best way to increase hp/performance?

All idea are welcome. Looking to increase performance at reasonable price. 3.73 gears are the best way, so I've heard. Any other ideas? Thanks!

gears add no hp or tq but since generally those cars have 2.73 rear gears stock 3.73 will make the car about half a second quicker 0-60 but gas mileage will suffer some.

The next best thing would probably be a PI head swap (99-04 GT heads) this will bump you up to around 285hp.

Why does doing the PI swap give you more hp than a car that came with the PI heads and intake? 260 - 285 is huge for us NA guys.

the compression ratio is higher on that style with the swap than on the 99-04. or so i believe.

but +1 on the pi swap if you can do it. gears are probably the second best mod for the money.

welcome

Yah I'd agree and say the PI swap and gears will be your most effective mods.
If you're an auto a tune would really help your transmisssion.

Re: 1998 Mustang GT Best way to increase hp/performance?

What to do? Well gears won't add HP but will add better take off as for the gears to go with here is what I found. 3.73's are the tallest you want to go with a 5spd and 4.11's are the tallest to go with on an automatic. As for power adders there are many you do. You have Cold Air Intakes, larger throttle bodies and mass air flow meters. You can do headers and cat back with H-pipe. Then you have the power programmers and turbo's and pro chargers and so on. The list is almost endless. Keep in mind that if you improve the air intake you should do the exhaust to really get the gains. Hope this helps.
