New member , California special clone

Greetings
I looked around here for a while before registering. I have a 68 coupe with a freshly built 302. dyno test shows its a little over 300 hp.
I bought it with the engine installed but not ran. Previous owner hit hard times. I paid $5,000. He had 6000 in the engine alone. I added up about 14,000 in receits he had.
The body exterior is solid. Fenders/doors quarters all good. He put a california special kit on it. Fiberglass hood/trunk and tailight panel. I am replacing the tailight panel with all steel with cougar style openings. I dont like the fiberglass overlay.
The bottom of the car is rotten. I have bought all the parts to replace full floor pan/trunk floor/wheel housings/rockers/torq boxes/tail light panel.
I am experienced in body work and machanics. I will need some advice related to keeping the mustang as original as I can with what has been left original.Im building it for myself but want to maintain the maximun value.
Thnks in advance for advice given.
By the way Im 54. If it seems that I have a little rust in my grammer, I do.I may be dislexic!
Thanks Mike

Re: New member , California special clone

welcome

Sounds like you got that 68 for a pretty good price...floor pans/trunk work isn't difficult and parts are abundant. I almost picked up a green 68 coupe a few years back, but it would've become a money pit...wasn't up for that at the time.

Re: New member , California special clone

Thanks
I was 16 in 1972. There were a lot of these cars to be found cheap. I hate to say I destroyed a few and almost died in a 69 Dodge RT. Those cars crunched easy and so did the people inside. The muscle car era was short. A gas crunch in 1974 put an end to it.
I would love to drive on of the new Mustangs. Im afraid to, I would be signing myself into another loan. They look great and preform great The handling and even preformasce is actually better in todays cars. You just dont get that rumble all the way thru your bones.I guess the right pipes would help. You dont hear the carb howl but fuel injection is better. DIfferent Animal. Unbelevable HP out of these smaller motors.

I cant wait to put my foot in that 302. Ive been acting adult and civilized for too long now.

There arent many 65's around with 14000 miles. I like to see old original cars that havent been restored. Sort of rare.
Your 2001 looks like fun. Mike
