'Nati Fresh

Hi everyone,
My name is Grant Gorham and i am 21 years young, and I live in cincinnati Ohio. I purchased a 2003 mustang recently, and it is a manual, 3.8. This is my first mustang but I am not new to cars. I own a 1995 Eagle Talon that makes 600whp and weighs 2700lbs. But we will not talk about that car because it loves the garage......... go figure. My goals with my Mustang is to get it to run 14.5@9xxxxmph and maybe in the future beat a stock GT. This figure was generated because that is what my friends NA 300zx runs. The mustang is my Daily Driver now and I have already done a bunch of upgrades too it, and im looking to see what else needs to be done to achieve my goal.

Mods are:

cold air intake
Short throw shifter
Flow Master Exaust
tokico shocks
Strut Tower bars
'92 cobra rims with Micky Thompson street ET's (275 wide)

Future Mods:

Screamin Demon Coils and wires
Intake spacer
underdrive pulley

I have not run the car yet at the track, but I plan too. I also will use the vehicle for the occasional autocross fun. What else should i do?

Thank you so much, and I hope all is well with everyone!!

Re: 'Nati Fresh

I'd skip the intake spacer. Very little to be gained there. Welcome to the site though!

Re: 'Nati Fresh

The first thing I'd do is 3.73 gears and a traction lock for the rear end. That will give you the best bang for the buck right off the bat.

Re: 'Nati Fresh

ok,i think i am going to avoid the gears because from my understanding they will kill you mpg,, and i drive 50 miles a day to and from work on the highway. I was curious on how to get rid of the one wheel peel and how hard the installing the lock ring is. thanks!

Re: 'Nati Fresh

3.73's won't kill your MPG. Its going to be damn hard to get to 14.5 in a V6 Mustang while concerned about gas mileage.

Brent is right. It's one or the other. If you're concerned about mpg's, leave it stock and buy yourself another Talon or something. If you want the performance goal, you will have to make sacrifices.

On a side note, welcome to the site! And we look forward to seeing pics.

Re: 'Nati Fresh

if you go with 3.73's i think the most itll kill ur mpg will be like 1-3 on the highway (if i remember correctly) but if you are really skeptical about doing this u could just do a t-loc

Re: 'Nati Fresh

ok, so if were talking about doing the gears, how does one go about doing so? I would never buy another talon.... especially if its for a 14 secound car or a Daily driver. I just want the mustang to go 14.5's to spank my friends nissan. The talon has gone a best of 10.2@140 on street tires and pump gas, so im not crazy about making this thing stupid fast at the track. I will consider the gears since it is what ever body is saying. Where would you go about buying something like the gears, and lock ring?

You can get the gears/tlok/gear oil in a package from Mustang Parts & Performance - American Muscle

Re: 'Nati Fresh

Gears, exhaust, CAI, and a good tune are pretty much all you need to smash that 300zx

Re: 'Nati Fresh

Now are we talking about a Diablo or SCT tuner or a shop tune? I live close to a shop called Cincy Speed, and they rock with all domestic cars.

Go to U-PULL & SAVE and buy a complete 8.8 rearend out of a gt will cost around $150-$250 I live just south of cincy and that is the best place to get used parts.

Re: 'Nati Fresh

yea, I had a '93 Talon at one time and hated every moment of it. My talon is a '95, but as all imports that makes any power it breaks down all the time. The reason I am on import forums of course is because I need to know some things on my car from time to time. I have owned a few vehicles, including a built civic (never again) and a 300zx. My parents have a '68 fastback, and a cobra jet. I did order the gears this morning, and will have them installed by a shop. I am a work as little as possible on this car mood..... and doing something like that seems like something i dont want to do on my own without a guiding hand. Now i need to look into the tuning software. I did all of the tuning on my talon, but if I could buy something that is just plug in and be done, i imagine it would save me both money and time. Thanks all!

Grant

Re: 'Nati Fresh

there are some great tuners out there that can help, the best way is of course data logging and dyno sessions to get it spot on.

I have an SCT X-Cal 3 tunner that I purchased for 380.00 new (with no tunes as can tunes = crap for my car)

I then had a guy I know (formerly with RWTD, running with the devil) write me 3 tunes for 100.00. I data logged and dynoed, logged, etc to get the tune right and now im good to go.

I have also been considering juice for this car... idk i have yet to research it.

All of the imports are running on e85 now with upgraded fuel systems, its like race gas but cheap as all can be. Is anyone trying this out yet?

Last month's issue of MM&FF had a superb article about spray.
As for e85, i don't even bother with it. 87 unleaded at $2.54/gal for me
