Best things to look for..

Check for RUST in engine bay/rocker panel/floor pan/ rear hatch area - Finding a solid car that may not be the cleanest is easier than starting with a mostly clean car that has rust

How much of a fixer upper were you considering? The better the starting foundation, the less impact on your wallet to fix it up..

Well I'm looking at one that runs strong has a little rust on driver qtr panel was fixed poorly, and rust a rust hole in floor in rear passenger side ( strut towers are solid, rockers are solid) . It looks like the cars been left for years. Oh yeah and it's very hard to put into gear ? . The guy wants $900. He needs the cash .

Very hard to put into gear could be clutch, clutch cable or trans itself either way that would be fairly easy to diagnose and repair..

Look into floor pan replacement - it's a fairly extensive repair and can cost a decent amount if you can't do it yourself..

For $900 you should be ok - you could always fix the trans issue, clean it up a lot then sell it for a little profit and look around for another.

Another area on foxes to check for rust is inside the hatch area on the top of the car. Ive looked at several that had this problem in my area. But it sounds like what you have found for $900 is a pretty good deal!! Congrats!!

Re: Fox body stang

If you ever look at a convertible check the metal rails because these are commonly broken

I'm going tommorrow morning to look at a convertable. When you mean rails , do you. Mean frame rails? Or the actual top metal frame.

Re: Fox body stang

The actual rails that support the cloth top of the convertible, Especially look at the ones that run above the windows, I made the mistake of not checking and mine turned out to be broken. It's easier to get a new hydraulic motor than the rails trust me...lol
