2000 Mustang V6 3.8L

I just wanted to intrduce myself to this forum. I am in the process of bringing my sister-in-laws 2000 Mustang from Florida to New York. I will be the second owner of the car and would like to do some work to the 3.8L V6 and would like to know if it is worth the effort and what can I expect to get out of it in terms of performance. I am a old school type of guy and and have always had V8's but I sold my 1967 Camaro back in 1988 as the family was growing and I needed the money for a down payment for a house but I'm sure you heard that story before. Here is what I really want out of a car, I would like to have something I can take to the local shows and hang out with some old friends. I want it to sound good and have some getup and go but I am not going to take it to the track. I want a car that I can drive 3 and 1/2 hours to visit my grand children and take them out for a ride. Now that my kids are grown my wife and I are looking for something to do togeather and we both miss the old cars we had in the past. This would be the first car I ever played around with all the computer stuff but I am up for the challenge. Now with all that being said this car is great shape and has always been well maintained. I am really interested in this car as it would mean alot to my wife to have here sisters car and she is ok with any modifications I want to make. So once I get the car up here I have about 4,000 to start my modification for this year and would like some suggestion on where to start and what I should do. Thanks

Also are you thinking performance wise or exterior wise or both?

I'm sure some others will chime in but of you want to go all out that would be supercharger and all of that.

Gears and a tune will give you a good little boost on the V6.

Have any pics?

Re: 2000 Mustang V6 3.8L

they are great cars, easy to work on, cheap to work on, and parts are available everywhere. The aftermarket is huge (even for the V6) so you should have no trouble finding tons of things to look into.

Short of a supercharger/turbocharter/N2O or building the motor its hard to get any major power out of them, but you can do some small things and make it much more fun to drive around.

Be wary of the young bucks trying to woo the young ladies. Although nice ride! As spec said, you will enjoy working on this vehicle as there is a strong passion behind and everyone is always willing to help.

After many years of going to shows and events I can tell you that the Mustang crowd is the best most helpful people you can find out there.

Re: 2000 Mustang V6 3.8L

If you have 4k to spend, then id definately do a supercharger first. Its one of the more expensive and rewarding Mods. Then you can do small things as more funds roll in. However you could also do bolt ons and a few nice exterior touches for that kind of money. It just depends on what you want most.

Re: 2000 Mustang V6 3.8L

if you have 4k you could sell your car and buy a 96-98 cobra or such~ another thing to consider... plus a GT or Cobra would hold value better than a 4k turbo kit.

Re: 2000 Mustang V6 3.8L

Exactly what Spec said. Your limited, very limited with a V6. It's a nice car and fun to have, but if you have that cash and your looking for performance then the best decision you can make is upgrading to the GT or Cobra.

Re: 2000 Mustang V6 3.8L

you can make em fast but the cost is high so its just a matter of where you want to end up and how much you realistically are looking at spending to get there~

Re: 2000 Mustang V6 3.8L

I will put my money in this car. My wife is disabled and this car was her sisters and she wanted me to get the car so that my wife and I could take it to the local car show and hang out with old friends. So this car has some sentimental value to my wife and I. There are some things that I want to do to this car and will post them in another thread but I can always drop a V8 into this car. Some of the cars I have had in my younger days where a 1968 Chevelle a 1967 Chevelle and my last one was a 1967 Camaro and I always wanted to build a mustang. So I am going to play with this one for a year or two and maybe buy another one after that but this one will be in the family for a long time so in my eyes it will be money well spent.

That is a great reason to cruise in it. Nice
