Newbie from Illinois

Just purchased a 2001 GT for my son (he is only 15) so he has a few months to decide what mods to do and I can enjoy for a little while too LOL. This one owner was babied but the paint was little rough, but a little Meguires Ultimate Compound and a coat of wax and it is back to gloss black. I chose this forum because everyone seems genuinely helpful especially for newbies and look forward to a long relationship.

Welcome! It looks nice so far. Have y'all already come to an agreement with what mods to get first?

Re: Newbie from Illinois

We are just outside STL too (Go Blues/Cards!). I see some others nearby too, if anyone is interested in meeting Fairview Heights to meet and greet, let me know. I am looking for someone with more knowledge who can help us decide on some of those mods asked about below. My son wants everything of course, but the financial advisor in the family says if it ain't broke, don't fix it. We are looking for a new intake (K&N on there now - again it works so we don't need to replace right away). I have been reading what everyone else is doing - it would be nice to replace some of the other performance upgrades, but I think we need to concentrate on the maintenance things...brakes/rotors, tune up, maybe clutch (he is just learning a manual - LOL). I will look forward to who responds to this and try and get some more communication going.

Thanks for looking.

Awesome I'm right by in O'fallon. It'd be cool to get a meet together in fairview! I'm down in SE Mo for college now though..

Re: Newbie from Illinois

Lalaya looks great! Custom color? I like the blacked out lights in front and rear...is that tint or did you replace them? I have seen the tint strips for the tail lights and was wondering if they looked good close up? How have the fronts been holding up to rocks and debris? We were thinking about getting some soon.

I see why you were 'Stang of the Month - it all works together great.

Uh oh...a Cubs fan or just a Cards hater? How about posting some pics of your car too?

Thank you very much!!!
It's Sonic blue which is a factory color but i had to have one this color

My headlights are from AmericanMuscle.com, dark smoked!

My tails, I spray tinted them but I had the vinyl over my head lights on my last mustang and liked it a lot. Easy to take off. FL cops sometimes don't like the dark tinted lights in the back. Lol.

My car has held up well as a daily driver and doesn't have any bug damage on the front.

Re: Newbie from Illinois

Rm360 - damn nice car. It would be great to get to your level. I love the accents in the interior! I saw them on Americanmuscle's website, are they pretty easy to install? How has the wear been - any coming loose - AM has pretty good quality parts from what I have read.

The supercharger? on the engine looks great too...how much power increase did you get? That would be a great Xmas gift I will have to put on the list.

I got all the interior trim pieces from upr and the have held up very well I just keep them polished with mothers billet polish , before the supercharger my car put down 240 rwhp after the install she put out 360rwhp and 341 lbs of tourque running 10 lbs of boost, and that is with a conservative tune

Re: Newbie from Illinois

Thanks shaqfu. Just checked your pics...got a son too? Its funny when we are driving, well when he is driving, and to watch everyone turn and stare at the car. There are not too many 11 year old cars that get that much attention. Love it...

---------- Post added at 06:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:05 PM ----------

Very nice. How is the clearance under the hood? I have heard if you want immediate performance go for a supercharger don't nickel and dime with smaller upgrades. Do you drive the car daily?
