I can't really tell what it is you've done... Can you spell it out for me please? I see a bit of a color change on the sides.

I remembered I asked you last month on this thread about that Car Chip Pro OBDii recorder you had just ordered. How has that been working out for you?

Those are 2013/4 taillights. That is all that's been done recently to it, I was waiting on the second pigtail.

And not bad, its been On the Insight for a little while now. Not bad, but not quite an "amazing" product. Review will occur, working without a Computer right now- More precisely, one that is not less than 6 years old, does not overheat, and can stay on for more than a few minutes lol.

You guys are like my two favorite people on this site, so I'm glad I'm connecting you, haha. I always appreciate and learn from your contributions.
Lol, thank you! It's difficult to fully grasp, but reducing the power needed to do things reduces the fuel needed. So reducing fuel needed to get to speed, reducing fuel to keep speed, and driving smart (passing cars in front of you rather than stopping behind them, timing lights, not racing to a red light, so on) uses just as much fuel as needed. Makes the kill switch better, too, as with less drag one can coast longer.

Anybody see a problem here? Lol I specifically had my guy cut these so they would look sharp and clean, but they will be carving into the road if I don't trim. UGH, why didn't I measure... Anyway, about to cut and may start cold welding this bad boy together.

Side gates in. Waiting for the welds to solidify to make sure they are set and 100%. I wanted to get all four in, but won't happen with the issues that came up. I think it might turn into up to eight gates. Not perfect, but I think it turned out decent, so far.

I forgot to take pictures of the totally complete job. Now the sides from after the front wheels back to the large flat chunks of plastic are smooth. Next up, are the center portion and the rear end. I bought thicker aluminum because they were giving me a deal, and, well, it's too thick to bend.. So that will be at least my center, and I am trying to make it my rear, also.

The rear was removed to finish the passenger side. I had enough material to get it all done without cannibalizing, but because of his tools we had to do it a certain way that limited it.

After working on it from 1000-1500, I just got it down and GTFO. Too much time for me in a shop. These are some of the images I took.

UltArc is all about fuel efficiency. He calls his car the AeroStang and consistently gets over 40 mpg. I've been following this thread of his religiously, not because I want to do it myself, but I just because I think it's cool as heck. This underbody he made is for aerodynamics. Basically, it streamlines the vehicle so that it glides through air better and reduces turbulence/vortices from forming behind the car that increase drag. I hope UltArc responds with a more detailed explanation, he is the expert.

I did, and it got deleted. I "did not have permission to post."

Back in this thread, and I think a few others have more info in it. Essentially, all the little things hanging down get in the way of the air smoothly flowing. I think of them as mini parachutes. Like the common rear diffuser is pretty pointless, beyond looks. It holds a big open space and doesn't extend far enough to really direct the air.

Vic, if you have not done it click on the AeroStang link in Ult's signature. It is amazing what he is doing....It's like the guys that are pushing 400+ HP out of a v6. He is also one that is pushing the envelope.

I was imaging it was for aerodynamics but forgot to mention it when I commented. I've read through this thread, I find it cool what he's doing.

I'm on the ME app so I can't see his signature. But once I get on my laptop I'll take a look at it. I find it interesting what UltArc is doing, have never seen/heard someone do this on their mustang.

I got my Mustang for FE. Originally I just wanted the claimed 31 while in the city with the standard- I have definitely beaten that lol. When the underbody is complete comes the hard part.

Modifications that will be visually obvious, and NOT cool. :/

HA! Nice try ME application! I copied before I tried to post! SUCK IT!

Attempted post: Here are my plans for the new rear portion. Had a little brain tsunami, and got my plan set. Just need a few more measurements on gate attachment, get the piece cut, then drill holes, weld in attachment points, get piece in place and riveted in, then weld the gates on.

The center piece will be riveted on, which is just a rectangle cut off of this, protecting transmission and drive shaft.

I wonder if you should start to think about transmission cooling. In CT you can really feel heat coming up from the tunnel around the shifter.

CT? My last design started to warm the cabin after 6+ hours on the road in summer. Not like if would influence me often, but that's when the build was UNDER the exhaust. This design has the EXHAUST under the build, so the heat is still leaving- plus the center isn't covered at this point. The center piece is designed to allow air around the transmission. Keep in mind, I do my best to spend time with the engine off and tranny disengaged lol- the longer I can coast, the less on time and more cooling time. I need to arrange to get these cuts made.

Hmm...not sure about CT much. I knew CT is that state, but with all of our acronyms, I thought it was something else. So have been making the template for the rear, and got some better shots of the middle.

The front, I have no clue. I was thinking just do PC, but I don't know. Aluminum is nice, but for that portion it doesn't seem needed. The front it by far the most difficult area to get to for me, but I don't know. Maybe I'll just bring PC with me and try to figure something out with it.

So the rear. I have my template.

Image 1; before I cut the bottom down. The portion going into the diffuser is perfect for me, so it will be riveted to the diffuser itself.

Where it goes flat, against the emission control module shield, I will put in the L brackets (cold weld) and then put in the gates later.

My final design has six gates, and it should work perfect.

Image 2; look how (aerodynamically) dirty this is!

The rear diffuser will be cut to go around the pumpkin, and secured to the rear axle.

Was at a Porsche dealership today checking out cars, and they had a couple of Ferraris in the back.

THIS is a diffuser. Got my appointment planned, so the build must be ready by next week. Surprisingly, I am not far from done and should be set for the timeline.

Should have asked a dealer if you could borrow one for the weekend or til next week, for "research purposes" of course lol.

So, you'll be doing something like this I believe? Should be an interesting build.

You need to know the rules, to break the rules

The F430 was already sold, and the California didn't have as wicked of a diffuser. That'd be nice, other than gas cost and both were automatics.

Mine won't look as good. It will have flat edges, more solid angles (no curves) and be made of aluminum.

You'll notice mine is less complicated and not as flush. Simply, Ferrari designed this car with it in mind. The bottom is already flat, and the rear end is built to flow this way.

Since ours was so sloppily put together, and underside and rear aerodynamics not even an after thought, my build has to cover it. The rear emissions gear should be compact and longer, not hanging down. If it was properly setup, I wouldn't have a rear diffuser. The top of the diffuser/bottom of bumper would be where the diffuser ends, not this mess we have trying to look cool- it would properly function. So mine is build onto it, extending the body to direct the air as best I can (without totally ripping the car apart, and relocating tons of stuff).

Image 1; ideal design.

Image 2-4; the sides come down to prevent air from moving laterally, and directed backwards. On the Ferrari, this is much higher and built INTO the body rather than onto. In what one sees here, there will be four more gates added. Two about the same length and the two inner most are 17 or so inches from tip to end.

I'd love to do it better, but that's a bit out of my pay grade.

Excellent! I can make posts.

So today I was able to complete everything but the final two gates.

Image 1; after cuts. In place, and mounting to the rear sway bar means this piece can be cut shorter.

Images 2-3; the piece has the L brackets in place, cold welded then riveted in place. Finals folds are 100%.

Image 4; diffuser is riveted to the faux diffuser (GT-CS) with six rivets, four rivets into the emission control module shield, and then three hose clamps on the rear sway bar.

Images 5-6; four of six gates in place. Four rivets on each gate.

Image 7; rear view. One can see the center portion hanging under the car.

Images 8-10; center portion in place. The front is essentially a loop, hung on the front of the car (some bar) and then bolts near the transmission were used to secure.

I'd be happy to, but a bit far for me. Furthest east I usually get is Maryland. Green Grand Prix 2015, Glen Watkins raceway. You can see it in action then, too.

I thought people didn't like it because no one responded lol, thank you, guys. Lots of people laughed as I dragged poly carbonate on the ground, and my older designs, but it all helped to develop this setup.
