Hey Mark! Congratulations and welcome too the forum. Nice looking ride you got there. I particularly like the stripping. Is it safe to assume your new, pre-owned pony is stock? First order of business! Sound! That means time for some aftermarket axle backs. I'm a fan of Flowmaster exhaust systems for our mustangs but that's just my own personal taste.

Second, Order of business! Performance tune and cold air intake. Strongly recommend either Bama or Steeda tunes and a Airraid CAI! Respectfully, not too be up in your business but it helps for suggestion purposes too your question. What type of budget are you working with for your mods? How much you looking too spend at the present time?

Yup it's preowned and fully stock. Well kept and all. I was thinking exhaust first too but I didn't know if any mods I do would void out the warranty I got. I'm looking to spend 750-1000 right now.

This is my first time doing any kind of modding so I have a few dumb questions. Do axel back or cat back exhaust give you any increase in power?

Btw love the kona blue you have there! Talk about striping, yours is beautiful.

Ah, another member of the 2010 GT club, welcome.

No, typically on a stock motor a cutback system is literally just a waste of money. Go with some axle backs and you'll love it.

Next I'd recommend an aftermarket tune. Huge difference, fun factor goes WAY up.

Is it better to get a CAI that requires or a tune or is it ok without a tune?

On the 2010+ GT we have the new air box and it works just fine. $300-$400 is for 5-10 HP (with a tuned CAI) is not worth it IMO. If you get a non-tuned CAI you're looking at pretty much looking at getting the same results as if you dropped in a K&N air filter for $60, just a few mpg increase.

Oh wow I didn't realize that. That'll save me a lot of money. What good to do after the tune?

Definitely some suspension work. After tuning my GT the stock suspension is already proving to be super sloppy and can't handle even the stock motor with a more aggressive tune

Welcome and congrats on your new Stang. A tune will void your warranty or give the dealership a reason to. To really improve your drive upgrade you shocks /struts/ springs to Lakewoods 'standard' drag racing setup. 90/10 struts & 50/50 for shocks. Their springs will help you launch better. Good luck deciding.

Why thank you good sir. Very kind of you too say. Axle backs will not give any increased power or very minimal if any but they give you sound. A cat back system will give your increased power gains.

If keeping your warranty is a concern or priority, please be careful on what mods you install. Axle backs should be no issues to void any warranty. You might want to purchase appearance mods that way warranties are kept in tact.

Welcome and Congrats! Mods...Make a list, check it twice...make another list check it twice...read a lot of the forums on ME...make another list based off of what you read...check it twice...then toss all those lists you made and start over...the problem is you will never be done with mods, one of the great things about owning a Mustang...Haha

Seriously, most people go with exhaust axle backs, maybe a CAI, simple things, take it easy...but even with those two mods, there are so many options it will drive you nuts...and videos on you tube just don't do exhaust set ups justice.

Check out clubs and cruise ins in your area and go see how other folks have modded their Mustang...

Most of have fun, enjoy, and drive the heck of her...

Yea that's what I've been doing. I've been reading a lot of the threads on here but not many people on here have a 2010. I wanna make a good choice on the exhaust so I'm taking my time lol

Thanks for the kind words about my interior glow wire. Its funny you mention about the 2010 mustangs not many people having. It does seem like 2010 is the year mustang enthusiasts forgot about. Body of the 11 plus but not the engine. Engine of the 2009 but not the body! Lol.

The 2010 is a special year for the new Mustangs. If you care for a little history lesson, I'll share what I've learned.

Essentially, 2010 = new 10-14 body+interior with 05-09 motor.
05-09 GT = 300 HP 320 TQ.
10 GT = 315 HP 325 TQ (more aggressive tune from 08 Bullitt model) + new air box in 11+ (so the most polished 4.6 v8 engine in our Mustangs).

The 2010 also comes with improved suspension, sound deadening (that improves with almost every year 2010 and up), new colors, etc.. Torch Red's last year was 2010 and replaced with Race Red in 2011.

Modding

If you need help with performance mods, go to the 05-09 GT section. Great help there. For anything else, 2011+ section.

All 05-09 exhaust fit the 2010. 2011+ the hangers were changed. Obviously only 05-09 mod parts fit the 2010.

Cosmetic mods are pretty much universal on the 10-14s. You can put 13-14 headlights and bumpers on the 10-12s. Most hoods too.

Like the color, like the stripes, and a huge fan of the "take me back to the keystone classic" era rims!

As to mods, as most have pointed out, the engine seems to respond the best with a tune. However, I'd just enjoy the nice Mustang the way it is right now, and decide if it needs any modifications later!
