Hey Y'all!

While I'm not new to the Mustang world, I'm quite new to the DIY world, mechanically speaking. You'll most likely see me post a lot of questions. I have a 96 Mustang GT that I bought from a guy who was just letting him sit in the yard for years collecting rust. I decided to name him Grimace...well because he's purple, and so far he's been quite disappointing. With the ticking, the squeaking, the leaking...I've been at it hardcore for about 3 weeks now, and I've had a lot of fun learning how this beast operates. Nothing too major yet, replaced all 16 lifters (still ticks), two new rotors on the back, all new platinum ceramic brake pads, new calipers (which I painted purple to match), just dropped the transmission today and replaced the throwout bearing, while I have the exhaust off I'm going to paint it flat black with high heat (1500 degrees) paint. Also found an exhaust leak while I was under there today. Need new mufflers too. I bought a stethoscope today so I can pinpoint where the ticking is coming from. IT's not the chain, I checked both and they're not loose or broken. Checked the fuel injectors. I'll figure it out. Right now I'm just enjoying the quality time that I'm getting with it, bonding and such. My boyfriend thinks I'm incapable of accomplishing these things alone, and so far I've totally been able to prove him wrong. (That too has been a blast! Lol) Anyway! Long story short...I'm Brittany, from Valdosta, GA...and I have a LOT of questions. Lol Click image for larger version

Nice! Welcome aboard! It sounds like you've got your hands full. Lol, so you've got what sounds like a lifter tick? Have you checked your oil pressure? One sign of a failing oil pump is a lifter tick. Also, oil flow could be a problem. If you've got a dirty oil pickup screen in the oil pan, that could also lead to excessive engine noise.
