Hey everybody,

Long time lurker, first time poster.
My name is Collin, I'm currently in a 2008 135i that is for sale and I'm looking to get into a '14 5.0

I love American Muscle and as sweet as a twin-turbo inline-six is, I turn green with envy every time I hear a V8 rumbling down the road. Hoping to get into one soon, the anticipation is killing me.

Welcome to the forums! I'm glad to hear you're interested in coming to the "dark side", haha. That's awesome!

You definitely did a great job with your 135i. Those cars are fun to drive! However, I do agree that nothing really beats the rumble of a big V8 rollin' down the street! Do you have any plans for the Mustang yet?

Let me know if you have any questions or need some assistance in the near future. We'll be happy to help!

-Dan

Hello there, thought I'd give you guys an update. Ended up nabbing a 2014 Sterling Gray Metallic 5.0 manual/track pack 5.0 with 72 miles on the clock at the end of September. Got a smokin' deal, and haven't looked back since.

Have a lot of pictures to dump of the car and the progress I've made with her. So bear with me.

Day I picked her up. Sorry, was too excited to take a decent picture.

Took a somewhat better one when I got home.

First fillup of many.

As much fun as I was having mudding and rock crawling at the factory ride height, I wanted to drop it like a bad habit. So I ordered a BMR adjustable panhard bar and BC Racing BR Type coilovers.

The install was fairly straight forward. I did it myself and with no instructions. It took much longer than anticipated though. (Silly mistakes, 45 snack breaks, dialing equal ride height and centering rear axle. My advice if it's your first time installing, just take what you assume it will take you, add an hour, and double it. Not really. But maybe.

Also in that time I did some plastidipping. I'm not really a huge fan of plastidip, because it just seems to cheap and everybody wants to plastidip all the things these days, but I've been using it for a long time and will definitely say it has a certain level of quality budget diy conveniency you won't find anywhere else. I dipped the hood vents, pony grill emblem, and rear chrome ring around the GT logo. Also I tinted the side orange markers with a dark Lamin-X smoke film I had leftover from a project two cars ago.
Here are some shots after the drop, dip, and tint.

Also got it tinted at the Tint Pros recently, but probably won't post photos until the tint is fully cured.

(Double post because I messed up the picture links in the last post and don't know how to edit or delete it).

Thanks! In certain ways its better, in certain ways worse. I see them as two different animals. The 5.0 sounds better, is torquier and as fast stock as my 135i was with jb4 intake full exhaust and E85 blend, more reliable, cheaper to maintain, work on, and mod. 135i had better creature comforts like the red leather and the stereo was nicer (easily remedied if I had opted for better packages on the Mustang). MPG was much better, (22-28mpg vs 13-22mpg). It also had 90k more miles than the Mustang (91.5k on it to be exact). Looks are subjective, I like them both about the same in that department maybe the Mustang a tad more, and I'm only going to make it better looking. People tend to think the 1-series looks awkward, but people also tend to think the Mustang is a rental car lol. It really depends on what you want the car for, your budget, and your taste. Both fine pieces of engineering though!
