new member looking for a GT

whats up guys. i just recently started researching mustangs. im looking to get one for a daily driver hopefully after the holidays.

hopefully this post doesn't turn out to be too long, but ill post what i started with and where im currently at. hoping to get some help on making a decision.

i currently daily an 06 scion xB. i like the car, its practical, good gas milage, etc. use it to haul alot of stuff when im working on my house/other houses i fix up. (hobby/side job, i work in IT for my day job).

well the car is half mine and half my dads, so we're keeping it, but im gonna give it back to him to daily so he can save gas (currently driving his 01 v10 excursion). i have an excursion also, as well as an 87 wrangler, and a few other toys, but none of them are really good for daily drivers (excursion is way too much on gas, jeep i cant daily, just cant, no air, etc lol).

anyways back on topic, i recently just decided that i want a mustang. im a ford guy, so a camaro or challenger isn't even on the list. i 100% want a convertible, ive always wanted one, so i figure why not get one. I test drove one, and it was pretty cool with the top down.

originally i figured i'd just get a newer v6, like a 2010. really didn't want to spend more than 15k. i honestly only plan on keeping this for 2-3 years maybe, because i want a 2010 f350 dually 6.4L, but im not ready to spend 35-40k+ for that, so i want a new toy to have fun in until then. after my friend said to turn in my man card if i get a v6, i laughed, but for the hell of it, started looking at some older GTs, 05-06. seems to be in the same price as a 2010-2011 v6. i test drove an 08 GT manual today, and that was enough to knock the v6 off the list. the v6 wasn't bad, but id rather get the GT. i wanted the newer body with the different tail lights and headlights, but after looking around, the 05-09 body style still looks nice to me.

then i started researching specs, and reliazed the 2011 has the 5.0 and a lot more HP than the 4.6 i drove today. now they're more money, but if i can find one for close to 20k, i wouldn't mind spending a little more to get that. depends on prices when i actually go to purchase one.

basically, i cant decide if i want an 05-09 GT, or just spend the extra money and get a 2011. if i go 5.0, it'd probably have to be the first year, as itll just get more expensive the newer it is. any issues with the first year of the 5.0? same goes for the 05 GT, any issues to lookout for on those, or (if i go 4.6), should i look at 06+? i've never really liked getting the first year of any car, but im sure you guys that know, can tell me if there were any issues with them to look out for when buying one.

i haven't driven the 5.0 yet, may try and go find one locally and test drive it just to get a feel, but that may be bad because i will likely want one for sure, i know its going to be faster.

whatever i get, im not planning on pouring a ton of money into performance mods. maybe bolt on type things, exhaust, possible tuner, cai, things along those lines.

that should be all the details for now, looking forward to some responses from you guys that own and drive these, pros/cons, etc. also, let me know what you paid for your car, how many miles etc, so i can get a feel for used prices. i know they probably vary by location, im located in tampa florida in case you wanted to know.

thanks!

No problems with my 05 so far. I would go with the 5.0 if you can though

Looking at prices, i think i decided to go with a 05-09 GT, since i only plan on keeping it maybe 2 to 3 years, i can't justify spending more than my budget

Will do! I have a sale contact pending on a rental house i have, i dont want to get into a payment until that's out of my hair,so hopefully that goes through soon, as soon as it does,I'll be on the hunt for one. My buddy runs a car lot so he said he will take me to the autions and find a nice one to buy for me.

since im looking to keep it around 15kish max, i think a 4.6 with some mods here and there (nothing crazy), stuff like cai, exhaust, possibly a tune, just a few performance "bolt on" upgrades, and ill be happy. Hell the stock 08 i test drove was quick enough to put a smile on my face, anything is better than a scion xb! Thing is incredibly slow, and being an auto doesn't help any!

If you can get into a 5.0 that's what I would do. Knowing myself If I bought the earlier gt I would always have that little voice saying I should have spent a bit more and got a lot more motor. Hope you get it soon I look forward to seeing pictures.

Id like to but part of me doesnt even want to test drive one because if i do that'll make the final decision lol. The 5.0 is (after tax and all) at least 10k more, just dont think i want to spend that much. I guess it depends when i start looking at the dealer auctions, how much i can get one for.

if i had plans to keep this for years and years and mod it alot, id probably get the 5.0 no doubt. But since this is just a fun car to hold me over until I can afford a 40 to 50k dollar diesel that i want, im not sure i want to spend more than 15kish.

you guys are making this hard for me!

What roughly would it take to make a 4.6 similar to a stock 5.0?

So i came across a 2013 GT that i like, 42k miles asking 23,950. Seems like alot of miles for one year old (one owner) but the price caught my attention. Its at a ford dealer a about 300 miles from me.

If you know you won't be keeping the car, I wouldn't worry too much about the 42k miles. Cars these days are beasts.
