Re: New Member from NC.

welcome the best way to get 400 hp would be strapping on a blower to your mod motor. takes the guesswork out of everything.

Re: New Member from NC.

Welcome. 400 to the ground would be a tough one with a 2valve naturally aspirated...it might be possible, but it is going to take a good bit of work (Cams, ported heads, possibly an over bore/stroker motor, headers, and a great tune). But, you should be able to get into the 300s without getting inside the motor too much.

Oh, and, check the link out in my sig. If you stick around the site, we are having a get together in the Adirondaks next september...trying to get everyone aware of it early to start planning.

Re: New Member from NC.

hopefully they approve my re enlistment with in the next few weeks... if so a few months from now ill have about 10g to spend on the stang after its paid off...... im thinking
gear and tuner, cams stage 2, bassani full exhaust/ headers, tb/plenum, and either a sc or doing a trans swap. any recommended changes or additions to the list would be great.

If you brought it all to Baton Rouge I could save you a lot on labor.

Re: New Member from NC.

I live in Baton Rouge...bumper to bumper is a way of life....but I wouldn't trade my manual for an auto for nothing...in fact, my 81 project will be getting a manual as well...nothing beats rowing through the gears.

Kinda depends on the trans you will be getting or the s/c you will be getting.

Re: New Member from NC.

Computer, guage cluster, shorter drive shaft, and transmission. You would have to get a shifter, pedals, clutch cable. I believe thats all im sure ill get corrected. The s/c is a kit. It has everything you will need to run the car at a set boost level. Now you go over that level you will need other things.

I'd say t-56 it's only a couple hundred more for the trans itself.

Re: New Member from NC.

Definitely the T56 over any 5 speed option.

AS for labor rates, I couldn't give you a number for a real shop, however my shop would be a very good deal. When I say I Could save you a ton on labor, I mean it. Work is done in my back yard and it is done by the job, not the hour.

Not sure on the computer. The guages in your car are mechanical and the 6 speed or for that matter any trans from half way through 01 you need to swap to an electronic guage cluster. Not sure on the rest of the parts never done it.

Re: New Member from NC.

A "new" remanned 03/04 cobra engine is $8000 shipped to your door I believe (from Tousley Ford )...I'll have to double check that though. A T56 will run you about $1000 used. You'll also need the cobra computer to be safe...that's probably a few hundred from Tousley as well. You will also need a cobra hat and fuel pumps....$1300 from lethal performance for the full fuel system.

A shop will charge you about $2000 in labor to do the motor swap.

I would say you are looking at at least $10,000 in parts...and then a couple grand in labor.

EDIT:

A better solution would be to get a forged 302 stroker short block from Boss330 racing, Ported heads from Patriot or the new Trickflow Heads when they are officially released, and a 2.6L kenne bell. This could easily get you to the 600 hp mark.

Boss330 shortblock: ~$4500 (off the top of my head, might be less...check www.lethalperformance.com )
Ported Heads: ~1500
Kenne Bell: ~5500

Labor will be in the $2000 range again.

Re: New Member from NC.

Ok, I just verified the price on the remanned 03/04 cobra longblock. I'm still trying to determine if it in fact comes with the eaton as well.

The cost from Tousley Ford...direct to your door...is:

Quote:

This quote is about 6 months old...so it may have gone up a few hundred. You would need to pay the 2000 core and would not be refunded...unless you could find yourself a blown up 03/04 cobra motor to use as a core. The core has to be the same as what comes out of the crate, so it needs to be a full long block.

Re: New Member from NC.

Oh yeah, and the remanned 03/04 block comes with a 3 year/100,000 mile parts and labor warranty.

So, disregard my previous suggestion of what would be better off....you're better off with the remanned 03/04 long block even if it doesn't come with the blower.

Re: New Member from NC.

Considering he spends his entire ad discussing how to pay for it and how to find out how much it will be to ship...no details about the motor or trans at all...that would make me leary.

And I don't know if a reman motor comes with the blower...it is a long block and not a complete crate engine...so it needs accessories like alternator, water pump, things like that...so it may be it needs the blower as well.
