New member looking for answers!!!

Hello all. Glad to become a part of your party!!! Fords forever. Recently won a 2008 Mustang GT Premium Convertible. Been running 87 octane. Put in an Airaid Cold Air Intake and Diablo tune. Had it dyno-ed and only showing about 265 rwhp. I now run 91 octane and feel a difference. I thought the 4.6L sported 300 hp stock. Any thoughts?

Re: New member looking for answers!!!

The 300 HP rating is at the flywheel. When you dyno, you are measuring rear wheel horsepower. Generally speaking, about 17% of power is lost in the drivetrain with a manual transmission.

So.... 300 - (300*.17) = 300 - 51 = ~249 RWHP stock.

You're probably right at about where you should be. Just make sure that if you are using 91 octane that you are using a tune that is made to take advantage of it. Otherwise, you are better off with the 87.

Re: New member looking for answers!!!

Thanks bunt302. That makes me feel better. Now I just need to study the art of Mustang and become edjumacated. I was told by DynoComp that the Diablo was set for the Airaid Cold Air Intake and required 91 Octane. lol

Well...if you are tuned for 91 octane then that's one thing. If you aren't tuned for 91 octane you're just throwing away money

Re: New member looking for answers!!!

Thanks lowflyn. The fellas at dynocomp did tell me it is tuned for 91 octane. Sure can feel the difference in power. Better gas mileage too!!! When I keep my foot off the gas. Kinda hard to do with my new toy!!! Thanks again.

Re: New member looking for answers!!!

welcome, get a better tune and you will probably pick up another 10rwhp (unless the tune on it was from a good place not just an off the shelf version)

Re: New member looking for answers!!!

Interesting story, but true. I was in San Antonio, TX to get my stuff out of storage to move to Phoenix. My buddy talked me into going to Eagle Pass, TX to play in a Texas Holdem tournament. 99 players. I won the tournament and the money!!! It was the last day of a drawing they ran from July to November 6, 2008. You had to place in the top 3 in tournaments from July to November to get a ticket for the drawing. Therefore I got a ticket in the drawing. Actually, I place the last ticket in the hopper. I walked away to get me Guiness and before I got to my table they called my name. Wah lah,,, the Mustang. That was my night I guess. Nothing like that has ever happened before or after. I get to cherish my Stang though. Lookin forward to beefin it up!!!! Thanks for askin.

Re: New member looking for answers!!!

Thanks everyone. The Guiness was great as always!!! I was even wearing a Guiness t-shirt at the time. Now my lucky shirt!!!! May have had some good luck or fortune but also have had my share of "@#$%&* luck too. More than my share. lol. Now that I have the cold air intake, diablo 91 octane tune and had it dynotuned, is there any other recommendations to get more horsepower without adding a supercharger or turbo? Your all knowing advise is GREATLY appreciated.

Re: New member looking for answers!!!

first off

as for the power I would go for a set of long tubes and an off road x-pipe. Good for 20-40hp. An underdrive pulley is good for about 20hp. then you can do a set of NSR springs.

Re: New member looking for answers!!!

Thanks ya'll. Does any one know the thread zebs5408 is talking about? I have been looking online at different part stores and have come up with the following: Magnaflow exhaust, catback and mufflers, lowering springs, 4:10 gears, spyder drive shaft, underdrive 2 pc. pulley set and possibly an NRS cam. Thoughts!!!!

Re: New member looking for answers!!!

this is the thread he is speeking of
http://www.mustangevolution.com/forum/t5654/

As far as the list you made. That's the route I would take for the best results.

As far as the CAI goes the best 2 on the market for your car are the C&L Race, and the JLT anything else is pissing money away. As I did when I bought the K&N CAI. If the intake doesn't require a tune, it's not being all it can be.
