Re: Carbon Fiber hoods

Well Dan, personally, I've never liked the CF hoods, trunks, or any other body panel. I'll leave those to the ricers. I don't think the CF mixes very well with most colors.....makes it look like a crappy black-out job......BUT.....on your black GT, it might look pretty good....might give it a little contrast, instead of the "too much contrast" it'll put on a different color. And on the upside.....don't ya lose alot of weight with CF? Hmmm....wonder if paint would stick to that ****? lol
Just my two cents

Re: Carbon Fiber hoods

Oh yea! The CF flows really well with that color! I think it'd look good on the greys, black, silvers, and MAYBE white......beyond that...not so much....on my blue...ewww

Re: Carbon Fiber hoods

I want to keep my blue, whatever I decide to do. The first pics we saw, the wifey and I both fell in love with the color. There are a few spots that have peeled, etc....but I figure they'll be ok until I get the body done like I want. I'm thinking a heat extractor hood, cobra r front bumper, maybe a saleen wing, and not sure yet about the sideskirts or rear bumper. The only thing that worries me about the cobra r front, is the clearance I'll have when I drop the car. Gonna keep my chrome "euro-trash" tails, and go with chrome backed projectors, and probably all billet interior and under-hood dress-ups.

Re: Carbon Fiber hoods

carbon fiber hoods are pretty light, and painting it wouldnt add enough weight to concern yourself with

Re: Carbon Fiber hoods

Im thinking fiberglass on the S197's.I saw the fiberglass hood on my 98 break in half right in front of my eyes.....it wasnt a pretty site, but thats what happens when you rear end a parked car at 70mph.

Re: Carbon Fiber hoods

Don't paint carbon fiber, doing so will defeat the 2 main aspects one would want the hood.

1. Weight
2. The beautiful look of carbon fiber

I actually think it looks good on all of the colors. I have a black Stang and I'm thinking of adding quite a few carbon fiber products

Re: Carbon Fiber hoods

I honestly think that CF is not a good looking material I would paint it. Look at the Koensigg. The entire boday is made of CF and they paint it many colors. Koensigg, btw, is a European exotic. I think it's british. Also, Bugati Veyron is CF and it's painted. CF is a very light material, but not that much light than FG (Fiber Glass). So in my opion not worth the extra money unless you're trying to save every once of weight possible for the strip.

Here is a link for the Bugati Veyron.

Bugatti Veyron Pictures, Specs, Price, Engine & Top Speed

Check it out. Might learn some things about CF and the car itself. For horse power enthiasts, it's pretty flippin awesome.

Re: Carbon Fiber hoods

if you get a CF hood don't paint it, get a fiberglass one and paint it, the weight savings of a CF hood vs a FG hood only shouldn't even be considered unless you are serious about weight reduction and add CF fenders, Door skins etc. I think CF hoods look great with any color cars as well.
