Angry Aftermarket Coil Packs

Well-after approximately one and a half weeks-and maybe a couple of hundred miles-I'm getting ready to send my Granatelli MotorSport "hotter" "street" coil packs back to American Muscle. My car is running like $*#+, with erractic idle, stall on take off, and poor performance.:
One of the techs-here at the car store where I am employed-who has a much hotter set-up Mustang than mine-ordered his from the manufacturer, GMS-and had similar problems. He had orderd the "track" coil packs-with a similar result(s) in 600 miles of use. He was able to contact someone at GMS-and they are sending him replacement coil packs, to "fix" the problem.
What a disappointment. Anyone have similar experience/know someone that has had a similar result, after installing these?

Re: Aftermarket Coil Packs

I have also contacted the folks at E3 Performance Spark Plugs -regarding their really nice spark plugs-great performance-for 4.6 3V application/availability. Currently they don't have the longer plug(s) available, that the 3Valve 4.6 would require. They indicated they are 4-6 months from development/availability.

Re: Aftermarket Coil Packs

We started pushing e.3's at work......so I did a little research on em, trying to decide if I wanted to use my hard earned discount..lol
Most of the reviews I've found so far, are bad! SEVERAL of em where " I had them start fouling out within 6 hours". After seeing a few of those that were basically all the same, I think I'll just be going with NGK's.

Oh, but I will add, their marketing hype does sound good!

Re: Aftermarket Coil Packs

`Just returned from the shop, and uninstalling the GMS coil packs. American Muscle said return some of them for exchange/ all for credit-whatever I wanted to do.. ! By the time I started ny car to drive into the shop-after the seriously rough running morning commute with no "check engine" light on-it was on now!
I reinstalled the OEM coil packs and reset the "check engine" light(unfasten the negative cable, touch the positive terminal with the negative cable clamp, wait a few minutes, reconnect-no light!)

Re: Aftermarket Coil Packs

ummm Jim, do you have a hand-held tuner? If so, you know you can read/reset the codes with it? If not, you can go to the local parts store....most of em can read/clear codes for ya...as a complimentary service. Just the thought of doing the way you did, makes my brown-eye pucker! lol Guess that's from catching ringing current too many times on phone system intalls.

Re: Aftermarket Coil Packs

I have read mostly negative things regarding Granatelli coil packs. The general consensus is, unless your F/I, coil packs are a waste of money.

Re: Aftermarket Coil Packs

yea... there's nothing like being the "guinea pig"-sometimes you just have to go against the grain and "live on the edge", a little bit

Re: Aftermarket Coil Packs

Everybody I talked to agrees, the best coils for our 3v's are OEMs.
I am having spark issues under boost with my car so I am going to install the Kenne Bell Boost-A-Spark module.
It's adjustable up th 60K volt by regulating the input voltage and a lot cheaper than coil packs. I'll let everybody know how it goes in a couple of weeks.

Angry Re: Aftermarket Coil Packs

Yes I got a set of those for my 2006 GT and within 3 weeks one failed. After twisting the company for three days they sent one to replace it. Within another 3 months had a second went bad and now after another 6 months have a third. The company wash ther hands and out and out blaimed me for miss installation of them. How is that possible?

Any input on other OEMS like Accel?
