Question Talk to me about shorty antennas

I see them advertised and they look cool, but how do they affect radio reception? I'm loving the OEM reception, and I am a total road radio junkie... I listen to sports shows, baseball games, and football games all the time on long trips. So I don't want to sacrifice reception. Yet I've seen some claim that their shorties improved reception? Is this always true, or just for certain brands? Should I get a shorty? Will I be happy? What brands work well for fit and for reception? Thanks if you can weigh in on this.

Most of the time though, the shorty antenna is just for looks. 85% of the people that have them listen to the CD player anyway.

Re: Talk to me about shorty antennas

I first change mine to the 14 inch because I liked the look with the roof line. I broke in with my car cover being put on every night. I then got the 8 inch and don't seem to have that problem anymore. I have not noticed any problem with the reception but I don't listen to the radio that much. They are cheap at American Muscle so they are worth trying out.

Wife has a 4" and I have an 8", no issues with reception that I have noticed.

Re: Talk to me about shorty antennas

as cheap as they are go ahead and get it and if it really loses reception to where you don't like it just put the stocker back in there

Yeah they're great. I have a 14 on mine and can't tell the slightest difference between the two.
