Supercharger Cams and head mods

Is there a cam that is made for superchargers and if so what’s the difference in the two. Also what about head modifications what is the average cost of both, and expected horse power gains.

Re: Supercharger Cams and head mods

I know someone who just put in some cams (you have two) in his 08 GT, not sure how much power gains are out there... I know on the 03/04 cobras they really dont do much.

I wouldnt expect much cuz those 3 valve heads are pretty good.

Re: Supercharger Cams and head mods

Thanks, I had a speed shop tell me that they could add cams, a 10%underdrive pulley and a 2.57 supercharger pulley and get my car to 440 at the rear wheels. I didn't know if they are trying to sell me something I don't need, and turnig the supercharger at that speed might make it not as reliable. My car is a daily driver about 25000 a year.

Re: Supercharger Cams and head mods

You can get 440 to the wheels on the supercharger alone. Cams on a NA car will get 30 extra hp add some heads and get more.

I think he already has the s/c. (Look at his signature) I think he's just trying to squeeze a few extra horses out of it.

Yea I agree. You should be able to get that with just the blower. Isnt 450rwhp about the max for the 3v engine anyway. Imo it wouldnt be worth it on stock internals. And yes, there are supercharger specific cams. Not sure on the difference though. I would guess an extra 50-60rwhp with ported heads and blower cams.

Re: Supercharger Cams and head mods

Do you have longtubes on the car? Those would be a good mod for 10-15rwhp+. I noticed a big improvement on my car and its a 6.

Re: Supercharger Cams and head mods

No I don't have long tube headers; it would be too loud with resonators. I have the M90 supercharger which is about maxed out as it comes from Roush, I could put the 2.57 pulley on it but then the charger would be past it recommended range by quite a bit. That is why I was trying to add horsepower without changing the efficiency of the charger and without changing to a larger one which would be another 6000.00 or so. My goal is to reach around 440 to 450 until I can get forged internals and I would like to use what I add on the next motor also.

Are you planning on doing the install yourself? Are you planning on going to a bigger setup in the future? Cause you could probably sell your blower and upgrade to a bigger one for well under the price of heads and cams. Its probably gonna be a whole lot louder with the heads and cams anyway. That way you could do a built engine all at once. But I can understand if you just wanna do heads and cams now.

Re: Supercharger Cams and head mods

I have had a shop here tell me that I should buy a complete TVS2300 Roush kit and use the components I need. Then sell a complete kit, but at that they still quoted me 7200.00 to change it over then I have to sell mine, and not sure how much I would get or how long it would take or if it would sell. I was thinking that maybe there is a way to get up to the horsepower I want without going that route.

Damn thats a lot. More than a new kenne bell. lol. just remember that if you go the heads/cams route that youll have to change the cams again down the road if you go with a new blower and forged bottom end.

Re: Supercharger Cams and head mods

I hate to give up on getting where I want without changing the supercharger. I had thought I could build a good car from a stock GT but there seems to be such a large cost to get there. I was planning on keeping this car but think that I may go the route of a GT500 and build from there next year.

Re: Supercharger Cams and head mods

Good things come to those that wait. You can pull 440 off the blower by itself and be safe without adding anything, just do you research. I had a buddy slap a procharger on his Mach1 with over 100k miles and he pulled 460 and some change to the wheels but tuned it down to 435. 435WHP on yours is cake.

Re: Supercharger Cams and head mods

I would keep it at 450WHP max. That's a great # and depending on how you treat her she will last long enough to do forged internals later. Wouldn't you like to smoke a gt500 in your little gt?

Re: Supercharger Cams and head mods

I would like to smoke GT500's and ZO6 Corvette's , that was my plan when I started. But not wanting to lose my warranty I went with the M90 superchager instead of the TVS, my mistake, should have went for it and tuned it down a little.

Re: Supercharger Cams and head mods

Ok everyone got the engine mod's done Ford racing hotrod cams, Kooks LT, Catted X pipe, 2.57 pulley, but the dyno numbers weren't what I was expecting only 427.6 hp and 395.4 torque. It was 105 degress in the dyno area but even with that I thought it would be higher. Also put on a Steeda Cowl hood and change the front Fascia to a California Special looks real good will have new pic.s soon.

Re: Supercharger Cams and head mods

Nice, what did it run you for all the engine mods compared to a blower swap? Also from what I've heard you will see more gains from the mother thumper cams then the FRPP hot rod cams.

Re: Supercharger Cams and head mods

For what I did to the motor, I was about 1500.00 cheaper than a blower swap which is what I would rather have done. But that would have been a hard sell to the better half, if you know what I mean. (I hold her that if I could get the m90 a year ago that I would be happy with the power, my famous last words, but have come to find out your never happy with the power)The thumpers would have given more but been a lot less drivable at low RPM's from what I read. With all that said I was expecting about 15 to 20 from the cam and another 20 to 30 from the header and 10 from the pulley which would have put me around the mid 440's rwhp and the low 400's rwtq. The car is going back to the shop today for a few issue that need to be corrected and hopefully the tuner can get a little more out of her hopefully!

You are right, that is one thing about living where it's hot (in the upper 90's or higher)and humid for 4 months out of the year. I have been thinking about getting a diferent larger intercooler, one with cooling fans.

Hot Rod cams are not blower cams....they are for N/A motors.

I just sold my 06 GT with an M90, 2.57 pulley, full exhaust headers back, suspension etc etc. The car was an absolute blast but as you have found out numbers were disappointing! I road coursed the car bs it was phenomenal however spinning the blower that much caused quite a but of overheating issues.

I have a close friend who believed you could build a GT to the level of a GT500 and let me just say, stroked livernoise block, Tremec 6050 transmission, Whipple s/c cam cai etc etc runs head to head with a pullied GT500 up to 230 km/h and then pulls about half a car length. The money he has sunk into that GT just goes to prove that it's not always worth the money especially when the Shelby has sooooo much more potential.

I do miss the scream that the 2.57 pulley gives you but even the stock 2011 GT with 3.73 gears are pulling just as hard or harder without even scratching the surface or their potential!
