Resonators/glasspacks installed

I had 12" resonators/glasspacks installed just before the axle, essentially making it a midmuffler set-up. The cost was only $145 parts and labor. The guy at the shop said they were Walker which I believe also makes dynomax. They took away alot of the edginess and cleaned-up the sound. It sounds a little deeper and smoother. They reduced some of the volume but not too much.

Re: Resonators/glasspacks installed

Yah you can get away with resonators/glasspacks on v8's. I'd be condemning anyone who puts them on a v6...just a bad idea, lol.

For some reason going with just piping and no mufflers or resonators doesn't sound too bad on the 99-04 v6's. A chambered muffler would probably give off the clearest, most crisp tone but it won't be as loud as straight pipes.

True, but the way my exhaust is set up nothing really fits maybe a flowmaster 80 series muffler. but from what ive been told that will really drown out the exhaust note. Ive been told that if i do get some sort of muffler i have no choice but to go magnapacks or glasspack.s however they tend to buzz on a V6. the hushpower II seems like it might be what i need. but cant seem to find any one who has them on a mustang

Re: Resonators/glasspacks installed

Yah flows (the 40's 80's series) are known to drone on v6's in the higher rpms.
I haven't heard the hushpowers on a v6 mustang, there's one video on youtube of an S197 v6 and the damn audio got cut. Flow 40's with longtubes and an h-pipe do sound pretty good, but again, they get droney and flows are known to rust out pretty quickly, and if you have fitment issues they definitely wouldn't fit. You could just run the straight piping and have turndowns, that would really deepen the tone. Great alternative to running tips out back and getting a GT bumper.

Re: Resonators/glasspacks installed

why I fitment issues is i have side exit Roush style exhaust. the mufflers that came with my side exit were borla. But I removed them, it was way to quite. that why i want find a v6 with hushpower mufflers.

Oh yeah that's right, forgot you had the side exhaust.

After doing some quick reading on the hushpower 2's, it seems they are a straight thru design muffler...which will probably sound raspy and buzzy in the higher rpms. The hushpowers are apparently flowmaster's response to the magnaflows with the straight thru design, so I don't know, it's ultimately your choice, don't let me shy you away from them. I wish I could find a decent sound clip though.
