more newbie help with headers

Just a few questions here about headers , 1st there are so many JBA , BBK , Headman , Hooker , Mak , Cam , Ford racing etc LTs , shorties , = length DAMmmm i dont even know where to start.
1st I have a magnaflow catback, off road x pipe , CAI , and a Dibialo Sport tuner , what headers would be best ? is there that much of a difference in a headman to Bassani , headman being half the price? They look the same , also what differences can someon expect with LT to shorties and = length do they just change the power curve or does one set rise above another for all around and bang for the buck.

oh yea , will headers help get rid of that v6 sound the x pipe gave to my car or do i need to go back to cats or a h pipe?????????

thanks again
Steve

Long tubes will change the whole power curve. There will not be a whole lot of difference in peak HP or torque but you will see better gains down in the lower rpm range.

Re: more newbie help with headers

If you get long tubes, you'll also have to buy a "shorty" midpipe to go along with it. I'd recommend the Ford Racing shorty headers if you are set on getting some and don't want to buy a new midpipe. Really though, the stock headers on the GTs are a lot better than those of previous years. The design is much more "header"-like than the more "log"-like design of the earlier 4.6s.

Another thing that will help the sound if you put on a offroad x-pipe is resonators. Because the mufflers are so close to the tips on the 05+, they are bad about getting "trumpeting" with no cats. This is basically that annoying popping sound.

Here is a link with some more info.

Re: more newbie help with headers

jba, hooker and hedman are the best out of the ones you listed. MAC headers suck ***!

jba's are especially expensive, but they are emissions legal in 50 states

So your telling me with intake exhaust and a tune you can get over 70 hp with an 05???? Sounds like some tooooner mod on the dyno to increase "results"

What he said...

Notice...the word Headers....

And...CAI and tuning alone will pick up 30ish....then add in headers...being NA, he will gain well from headers.

If I ever get them, I will show you some before and afters of stock 05+ GTs after some effective dyno tuning...

Re: more newbie help with headers

I knew they had improved the heads and had some bad *** flow but DAM. I haven't even seen those kind of gains on an NA 4V motor is why I asked.

Re: more newbie help with headers

Well, I just came from looking at some charts on cars with the exact same mods...well, long tubes, mid pipe, cat back, CAI and tune...and they were putting down 315-320 rwhp STD....I forgot what the torque was off hand...but I will have the charts at some point and will see. So, yeah, I guess those other numbers a touch high, unless they are uncorrected...

The first post says no headers...then the other one I quoted says with headers...so I don't know.

To answer question about which ones...go with Stainless Works...they are gorgeous...and expensive...

Re: more newbie help with headers

I have just gone through what you are going through righ now. First of all i think your saying you have a v6 cause you said you want to get rid of that v 6 sound.

Long tubes verses shortys- shortys are just the same headers you have made from a better material. i did feel a little diffrence, however long tubes give you a better sound and more HP at the peak. Keep in mind and i was NOT ready for this, you do lose low end torque, so incase your pony doesnt get off on the get go like it did dont be shocked. to correct that i say get a pair of 4:10 gears.

as for the rest of the system, you could deff go bassani xpipes into an cat back muffler of your choice. if you have a v8 this will be easy, for a v6 you need a custom weld like i got.
if you have a v8 then you should go bassani front to rear, it just makes it so much easier when all the peices are by the same manufacture and are ment to fit each other.

i know bassani headers are kind of up there in price, i have kooks and they were much cheaper and just as good.

my set up
kooks long tube headers
custom x pipe
into super 40 flow masters

you wanna see how they sound on a v6 check out my little clip.

hope i could help
