Angry Shaker 1000 questions

I'm hearing a sound that makes me wince. It sounds like "cracked" speaker(s) in my `08. I think my car is still under factory warranty? and I was going to, a) go to the dealer and get them to replace cracked, broken speaker(s)
b) go to the local Custom Sounds, and upgrade the speakers
I would like to keep the factory head unit at this time. Any/all suggestios would be appreciated.

if it's under warranty, take it to the dealer

Re: Shaker 1000 questions

yea, my 01 did that and they replaced the speaker no big deal. Only issue you will have is getting them to hear the issue/noise and admitting its not "normal"

Re: Shaker 1000 questions

Well-I have contacted Custom Sounds -here in Austin. I'm probably not involving the dealer-unless it's my sub. I don't want to go back to 'made in china', with a paper cone... So I will probably be "upgrading" and use this as a great reason to get a better sound

there is no reason to not have the dealer fix it. Then, when you upgrade, sell the stock speakers

Re: Shaker 1000 questions

Are you sure it is the speaker, I think there was a TSB on door rattle that was caused by the speaker. I had to get my dealer to work on my driver door because of it.

Re: Shaker 1000 questions

I replaced my front door speakers with these..........
05 - 09 Mustang Kicker Audio 8 Inch Woofers: Audio Electronics &amp Speakers

I REALLY like the sound and the install was simple.

I thought the door speakers where midrange. If you put woofers in their place where is the midrange supposed to come from?

I don't have the 1000, but my woofers are at the bottom front of the door.

Re: Shaker 1000 questions

Yes, there are 8" Subwoofers in the door as well as 5 x 8's. The 6 x 8's have a tweeter and fairly good mid-ranges.

Not that I didn't trust you, but I did go out to the car and look and you're absolutely right. There is an area near the top that has some perforated holes (can't believe I never noticed that!) and the midrange speaker is behind that.

Now when I count up the speakers I can actually come up with the 10 ford says I have!

Thanks,
Chuck

Re: Shaker 1000 questions

And I'm just getting ready to dynamat both door panels, and the rear package shelf + install 4 new Boston Acoustic 5x7s, and an Alpine 4 way amplifier.
Im keeping the two 8" "drivers" in the bottoms of the door panels, and the sub cabinet in the trunk the same-and using the stock head unit..

Re: Shaker 1000 questions

Installation should be done, late Thursday afternoon-the 3rd. I'll give my impressions, to the Forum-after I pick the car up..

Re: Shaker 1000 questions

The dood at Custom Sounds told me there is a little "re-verb" in the left door speaker-possibly due to whatevert the TSB is supposed to address-and he also said that they were being "over-driven" at high volume. The latter may just be salesmanship to get me to buy the "good ones"-but between the BA 5x7s, and the Dynamat sound dampening kit(which should address the TSB, section)I am excited!

I think I am going to have to take mine back in. The rattle is coming back. I think all they did with mine is put some padding in the arm rest. For me is seems to be coming from somewhere around the window switch area.

The TSB for this is 07-17-6 but that covers 2005-2008, not sure if it has been updated to the 09's.

Re: Shaker 1000 questions

Okay,"you learn something new, every day"-and I learned about the TSB through creating this post-which may wind up saving me 1800.00
I have decided to "live" with the Shaker system-versus throwing 1800.00 into the stereo-that I will never recoup. Yes, I would have a "better quality" of sound-all of the time that I'm owning my car-but if/when I trade/sell...well-y'all get the idea-I would never recoup the investment. I told the sound doods that I was going to have to go "back to the drawing board"-and perhaps start a "stereo upgrade fund"-should I decide in the future-to go forward.
I also decided that I can "live ' with what I already have!
