0-60 in 4.9?

Today I saw a commercial for a red 2007 Ford Mustang GT. It was at a light and another car which looks like a Subaru drives up. In the commercial it said 0-60 in 4.9.

Now this is not the first time I have seen this. The commercial with the dad and son on a blue Mustang with white stripes at night on an empty parking lot had the same thing. 0-60 in 4.9. Sometimes it doesn't say it, but sometimes it does.

I had posted this thread previously, but everyone had said it was impossible. If it is, why do Ford TV commercials keep displaying it. IMO I think it's possible.

No, no. If you looked in the post, I said 2007 Ford Mustang GT. I know the difference between the 2. It was a GT, not GT500.

You would have to be a real good driver, and get some good traction. But it might be possible.

true

with the right driver though.

theyre also supposed to run in the mid to high 13's in the quarter, but again, with the right driver.

Re: 0-60 in 4.9?

Car and Driver Mag's test drivers repeatedly got 0-60 times of 5.1 seconds. Driver, air temperature, etc. would affect time so under ideal circumstances 4.9s could be possible. Also, claimed 0-60 time for GT 500 is 4.3 seconds...4.4 reproduced by C&D mag.

Re: 0-60 in 4.9?

I say it'll do it. They seriously are not that slow guys. Have any of you actually driven one? They are a quicker than the 99-04 Stangs. 40 more peak horsepower + a much better torque curve with the 3-valve heads + a tune that is about as lean as you can go on a production vehicle.

They will run 13.6-13.7 stock with a good driver.

Also, traction is not much of an issue in these cars. Even with the wimpy stock 235s, mine does not spin. It chirps the hell out 2nd and 3rd, but it doesn't sit there and spin, even in first.

Re: 0-60 in 4.9?

NO he is right.. new stang GTs are VERY VERY quick from a dig.. if anybody hasn't driven new stang GT i say go and test drive and see how qucik they are from a dig.. 0-60 time is 4.9 to 5.1 sec. NOT GT500.. just regular GT

check my ttrack video out and tell me how many sec. do u think i hit 0-60mph. it felt like damn quick.. I use time and between 4 and 5 s sec i reach 60mph. but sure that doesnt give me the right time.. just u judge it!! and i am bone stock to air filter and that run was done over 80 dgrees with 18'' wheels.

I stand corrected then, I just didnt really think about it, I guess my top end is simply amazing vs a 05+ gt.

05+ stangs sucks from a roll and top end sucks as well.. it reaches 130mph pretty easy but after it takes forever to gain..

has anyone red lined 5th gear on new stangs?? cuz i can tell if you red line 5th gear on new stang GT that thing will be well over 160mph.

Yes, that is your problem. I test drove an 06 GT and felt like I was in an econobox...but then again, I drove to the dealer in the cobra...so yeah. Same thing with an 03 Mach 1 I drove...felt like a dud...but again...drove up in the cobra...so yeah.

Unfortunately, you are ruined until you drive something other than your car for a while...or if you get into something quicker. If neither of the above happen, everything will feel like it is dog slow....

Probably a chassis that isn't 25 years old, a taller tire, and an improved suspension.

i love being a smartass on the forums

the point i was trying to make is that the fact they slow up after 130 is irrelevant to about 99% of people that purchase these cars. but what would you really expect from a 3500lb 300hp car with not so good aerodynamics.

Re: 0-60 in 4.9?

I completely disagree with you. Unless yours is a complete lemon, it should not suck from a roll. I sold my '97 cobra 5 years ago and have been dieing ever since. My best 1/4 in my '97 was a 12.8 on street tires. I just purchased an 05 GT and am pretty impressed with it. I definitely agree that it can do 0-60 in 4.9. My Cobra had 4.30 gears and I think that the '05 feels just as good in 0-60. I haven't ran it at the track yet, but plan to within the next couple of weeks. I'd put money that I'll easily be in the mid to high 13's bone stock. I guess time will tell soon enough...

Re: 0-60 in 4.9?

Redline in 5th, with a T3650 with 3.55's would be like 190 mph or more Hell, in the Bullitt (T3650 and 3.27's) it would easily do 135+ in 4th gear..... And at 150 or so, it was doing about 43-4400 in 5th. If you can redline 5th gear, with a Tremec 3650 in a stock mustang with 3.55's OR 3.27's, I'll give you a big *** cookie and a pat on the back

As for the new 5R55 automatic, I know nothing about it other than I've heard the 2-3 change in rpm is kind of disappointing.

Re: 0-60 in 4.9?

I think the 5R55 trans. sucks the gears are too close together you only drop about 1500 RPMS in a gear change and the overdrive is way too tall with 4:10 gears I turn 3K at 80MPH

Dam man. Sounds about like my Tremec Z tranny OD. It's got a .63 overdrive, but 1st through 4th is the ****. With 3.73's and a 26 inch tall tire, I'm doing 2400 or so at 75. I want to go 4.30's or 4.10's, but I don't want to have to shift into 5th in the 1/4 with nitrous, since I powershift

Re: 0-60 in 4.9?

Yeah, but since 5th is the weakest gear, powershifting with nitrous would mean as soon as the rpm dropped, the nitrous would hit with 400+ lb ft of tq causing me to worry about that gear BIG TIME.

I agree that you'll never top out 5th gear with the stock gears. Now if you have 4.30s or something like that, then that's a different story...

agreed.

i get to 140 in end of 4th, but thats with the limiter raised to 6500 so in 4th i can take it that far and come into 5th at a higher point in the rpm band so im not bogging down at like 4500rpm doing a buck-35. i used to play chase-vehicle with the camera when filming buddies doing freeway runs, so this was the only way to keep up, it did pretty well in keeping up, especially since youre comparing a stock *** GT to 50-60trim dsm's built for use between 80-180mph. but once i hit 5th i was usually left behind hard.

and its doubtful anyone can redline 5th in stock trim. not enough power to punch through all the limiting factors involved with doing so (gearing, aerodynamics/drag, etc)
