New Mods & Dyno numbers

Hey everyone,I had a question about what I should be seeing after my last mods. I added Kooks LT with Catted X pipe, Ford Hotrod cam, 2.57 pulley. It was 105 in the dyno bay but my numbers were not what I expected only 427.6 rwhp and 395.2 rwtq, is this on par with what I should see with these mod's based on the fact that I already was seeing 384 rwhp and 375 rwtq. That was a lot of money to me for a very little gain, is that normal.

Re: New Mods & Dyno numbers

im sure you lost boost with the headers (a little bit) but since you did a pulley at the same time you may not know exactly how much.

What is the timing a/f etc? if its that hot it did hurt numbers im sure, was the car cold? Eatons suck when they get hot.

How much boost does the pulley setup you have produce?

Re: New Mods & Dyno numbers

Before the headers and cam I had 6.8 boast it got that high when it was first dynoed without the pulley added and mad 413 and 375. So the car was hot not sure of the timimg and the AF was around 11.9 range.

Re: New Mods & Dyno numbers

Oh one more thing, the seat of the pants feel is that I am slower now, not the same kick it had before. The Idle when coming to a stop fluctuates from 250 to 750 until I get down below 3 to 4 mph and there is a hesitation at low RPM's when accelerating. But she is loud now almost to loud, and sounds great

Re: New Mods & Dyno numbers

the idle shouldnt go down to 250 (which would cause the car to shake)

Re: New Mods & Dyno numbers

You have issue with your tune my friend. That's what is causing the idle surge and the dead spot in the throttle.

11.9 af is starting to get lean for boost. I wonder how much timing is in the motor? What size was the old pulley that made 6.8?

Re: New Mods & Dyno numbers

The old pulley was a 73mm so I didn't make that big of a change, the tune could be better I think. When my car was finished it was getting late and hot, I didn't want to be an *** and make him stay longer, he has a family and I undestand that. But if my numbers should be higher and the flat spot not there, I will go back to and get it corrected. I think he is a very good tuner.

Re: New Mods & Dyno numbers

dont worry about the numbers, it all comes together when the tune is right.

Also if you have the OEM plugs in yoru car CHANGE THEM for the one peice. I would also put in a new set then dyno, inspect the plugs for detonation, you cant hear all detonation! It will look like little spots in the porcelain if its detonating. See what your timing is, you want the most you can get without detonation on the gas you are running then tune it back a bit for a safe buffer.

Finally 11.9 is ok, I like 11.7 but if the A/F equipment they use is not up to par (old sensor etc etc) who knows WTF the a/f really is .... find out what equipment they are using and what sensor (one back or both banks etc etc tail pipe sniffer vs actual oxygen screw in sensors all that stuff)

dont mean to scare you or anything but the readings are only as good as the equipment doing the job.

Re: New Mods & Dyno numbers

Also, at 105* in the bay you lost a good bit of power right there. That hot air does not do any good for a positive displacement blower...or any blower for that matter. Even with a correction factor on your numbers, it still won't be the same as if you were to run on a cooler day.

But like was already said, you definitely have a tune issue as well based on the surging idle and dead spot. Unless you test drove the car at night when it was much cooler to feel the dead spot...because if it was tuned in 105*, it could be running a bit lean and pulling timing when it gets down in the 80s because of the better air.

Re: New Mods & Dyno numbers

Thanks, for the replys, I am going to take my car back next week and have them adjust the tune, hopefully the cam correct the problems. Right now I have the plugs Roush uses for the Superchaged cars to there not stock.

Re: New Mods & Dyno numbers

My real concern is the seat of the pants feel, I don't like spending all that money and feeling slower, kind of defeats the purpose.

Re: New Mods & Dyno numbers

Well that and the idle problems I am having, numbers don't mean much if the feel is not there. I hoped to feel a big difference in a positive way not feel slower.

Re: New Mods & Dyno numbers

Hot Rod cams are NOT blower cams...you are blowing boost and HP out the exhaust valves.
