magnacharger vs saleen?

This is essentially my first mustang (I breifly had a 99 V6 before my ex took it CRV hunting)... Hell this is my first car in nearly 10 years. I apreciate you guys answering some of my basic questions.

Now, I need to set up my lil "toy savings account" at the bank. So in about a year or two I'll have enough for a series of major upgrades. I want a sleeper, which is why I want to avoid stripes, body-kits (though I may go with Roush fog equiped bumpers and Saleen HIDs) or anything that advertizes this is a rod. I still want to smoke any stock vehicle produced in the next few years (Camaro, Challenger, those moronic over cafinated yuppies in luxury cars gunning for the space in front of me).

I looked at a few of the superchargers out there, and two popped out at me. Both the Saleen and Magnaflow SCs include an intercooler and full computer reprogram. They also cost signifficantly less then the competition. I have seen some comments about the Magnaflow getting the same mileage as a stock Stang, somthing VERY important to me.

How are these SCs in your opinion? Do any perform better and are more reliable? Will any take 87 octane and adjust performance accordingly?

Re: magnacharger vs saleen?

if you want to be safe about who you race on the street you will probably need to run in the 10's (if you only want to worry about stock cars) as there are a couple stock vehicles capable of this or close to it (07 Z06 vette for example)

I would say if you can run low low 12s or high 11's you should be pretty good and covered aginst most things (unless you live in a VERY nice car owning area)

Between those two I would get a Magnacharger, but if I wanted one with a Twin Screw design I would get a Whipple, or a Kenne Bell.

If you are using forced induction always use high octane gas

I am guessing that E85 would run perfectly fine on a SCed engine. I seem to remember someone talking about a water/alcohol injector to keep the engine running cool.

Would running E85 exclusivly allow a higher boost pressure?

If I were going to buy an 05+ blower... I'd get the Roushcharger. It voids the factory warranty just like all the rest. However, Roush backs up any warranty work on the car's first 36k miles.

I know this is an old post, but actually e85 has an octane rating of about 106. Lots of people are experimenting now with it, since it has such a high octane rating. Hot Rod or Car Craft recently did a motor with a carb converted to run E85 and ran upwards of 620ish hp on an engine dyno. The engine was running around 8 lbs of boost from a 871 style blower and 10.1:1 compression!!!!!!!!! E85 is actually welcome to the racing world since we can run more boost/compression on the street AND pay less for the gas.

Re: magnacharger vs saleen?

Thats what I had heard, and was the reason for the question. I know they are also experimenting with it in prop aircraft (which uses 105 octane gas).

I read somewhere a while back that Ethenol suposedly has a much higher efficiency rating then gas, and a higher reaction potention if there is a lot of compression. One of the reasons why E85 saps power from conventional vehicles is the low compression required to run 87 gas.
