Synthetic vrs reg gear oil on a new rebuild?

I am doing a rear gear change this weekend on a 08 GT to FRPP 4:11s. Which is better synthetic or reg gear oil and why? Also what would be a good modifier to use?
Thanks all for your time and input.

you can get oil now with modifier already in it fyi so dont put it if its already in it. I would go with synthetic as you only change it EVERY now and then not very often so why not.

I only use royal purple in my gears. it's full syn and you don't need to put any additives.
