Just installed my under drive pulleys!

Definitely notice a difference. But weird thing was it threw a check engine light as I was cruising at 10mph in first gear and felt like it was a little boggy. Driving from the stop sign, the light turned off when I shifted into second gear and has stayed of since. Checked all the connections and everything is good. Any ideas why this would occur?

Re: Just installed my under drive pulleys!

Depending on the size under drive you went with (10%, 20%, 25%) you may have to add a different pulley to the alternator if your amperage is dropping too low. This would be especially true if you are running several electronic devices (lights, big stereo, etc) at idle.

Like mentioned above I would run the codes to see what the computer tells you first and go from there.

Re: Just installed my under drive pulleys!

Thanks for the input guys. Will check the codes. Is there a way to check the codes without a tuner hooked up to the obd2(ie:turning the key off and on 3 times)?

As I was driving home from the in-laws, the car had no CEL , so I thought, "Great, the computer worked itself out." About a block my house, the sucker came right back on, but the car seemed to be acting fine. And now its staying on vs. before it was just blinking. I am not running anything that would pull a lot of voltage, like subs or lights.

As for the pulley, it's the Steeda one from AM, so I am not sure what size it would be. But changing the alternator pulley does make sense.

Again, thanks for the input.

Re: Just installed my under drive pulleys!

I had codes for missfire due to the pulley wasnt pressed in enough, but in my case the harmonic balancer and pulley are one piece

Re: Just installed my under drive pulleys!

Got home and retorqued the crankshaft bolt and reset the computer and everything is back to normal. Thanks to all for the help.

On a side note, I went to auto zone and they said they wouldn't scan the code because the company had been sued by the UAW for releasing such info here in California.

keep an eye on that bolt, check it again in a week or two then again at a month end. If its not moved you should be fine.
