Re: which supercharger???

I like the v3 vortech supercharger, also.

I ended up going with a procharger but only as I got it used and cheap..

I was torn between those two and the kenne bell - All 3 have their pros, all 3 have their cons and you'll find people rooting for or bashing on either side of the fences.

I say go with a kenne bell. Also, isn't 450 rwhp about the limit for those internals?

Prochargers work really well, but I prefer a roots style setup

Re: which supercharger???

a friend of mine has an 06 GT auto with a paxton (not the belt driven ones but a chain drive i do believe) and he has 480rwhp/tq on 10psi~ or there about (at the limit) and his is an auto.

It was 6k I think with everything.

Re: which supercharger???

I know of someone else here in the Birmingham area also that put a KB on an automatic (Shelby GT), and that runs pretty strong. The polished KB looks pretty good under the hood.

Re: which supercharger???

If you want a car that has an extra loud whine, I heard someone with one of the roush superchargers with a cold air intake that whine's a lot louder than my GT500.

The problem with that is the roush supercharger (M80 or whatever thier stock number is)is not as strong as others, unless it is the TVS Roush unit.

I am new to this site, but i thought i read somewhere that the KB units start giving the extra HP at the lower RPM's?

Re: which supercharger???

Roots style blowers tend to provide what is refered to as INSTA-Torque or Horsepower. Roots style blowers are extremely more powerful on bottom end RPM setups.

also keep in mind Root superchargers are not the same as Twin screw, the same kinda idea but they go about boost differently. Twin screw is better and more efficient but costs more.

Yes, Usually when I refer to Roots style I am including Twin Screw as their designs are very similar and both belt driven on top of the engine. Although they do go about it albeit a different way.

What exactly is the difference? Even Wikipedia refers to it as "twin screw aka roots supercharger".. I always thought they work the same way.

Re: which supercharger???

They are the same to me because the roots style has twin screws also!

top pic is twin screw

this pic is a roots blower

The only difference is the "twin screw" has more fins compared to the roots.

I'm not saying your wrong but something is fishy, my m90 that I have has the roots style but it turns in same way as the twinscrew not the way they say the roots style goes And I'm sure of it because I just looked at it, it is still mounted on the supercoupe motor and I turned it the same way the motor would and it is confusing me.

Thanks! Such a great article. Had a friend who put an Eaton M112 on his '91 fox and had a lot of internal heat issues. You could barely touch it after only 5 minutes of driving it, and that's even with the internal bypass valve.

But how would the power potential or efficiency of those types compare to the power potential of a centrifugal type s/c?

Re: which supercharger???

I installed a Paxton Novi 2200 on our '06 Roush Stage 2. The kit came from Brenspeed, and it was really complete. The only thing it did not include was a gallon of anti-freeze. Took us about 2 days to install it, including the air to air intercooler. The result was 476HP at the tires on Marcy Motorsports chassis dyno. As long as you DON'T abuse the car, the stock internals will hold up to this kind of umph. Also, having the boost come in later helps with the lack of traction these cars seem to have.

Whipples are cool, and a really well made product, BUT you could go Paxton or Vortech and save almost enough to build the internals and go big boost.

That being said, I assisted in the installation of an Edelbrock supercharger kit, and it was easy as pie. The best instructions, anywhere, period. If you are handy with basic tools, you could install it in a day. (With help- darned things are heavy)
It runs at 5 pounds of boost, so you won't likely break any parts.

I have a Vortech V3 Si-Trim and am very happy with it. Conservative tune nets 435 RWHP in an auto.

Re: which supercharger???

The Roush is a great product, but I just have a problem with the computer programming. Sending my computer off to them for re-flashing kinda bothers me, and then you are stuck with their tune- if you add something later, they need your ECU sent to them. Brenspeed's SCT tuning for the Vortech or Paxton superchargers is really good, and they will e-mail updates to you if there is a problem. Just my .02

That's what I was thinking also. But I like how the roush is intercooled. I just want to know which supercharger will give me the most horsepower at the wheels with out any upgrades other than long tube headers which I already have

Donate a couple pints of blood and opt for the intercooled Paxton- you won't miss the blood. They're paying $250 for platelets here.....

Get it, and later you can install a Snow Performance Meth kit, and pump up your tune.... You can always save up and get an intercooler later.
