window tint

I need some help. I heard that the 05 mustangs have a piece of strip or something in the door so when I get tint on the side windows it will get scratched or messed up when rolling up and down the windows. Anyone have this problem or know a site to replace these pieces in the doors? Or will I be ok and just go ahead and get the tint? Would help for some advice. Thanks guys

Re: window tint

As with all vehicles there is usually a rubber strip that is there to keep mud/moisture/ect ect from getting into the door as much as possible. I've seen rocks and smaller debris get stuck in these areas and scratch tint. **** happens. I would tint your windows and not worry about it. Likely won't happen

Re: window tint

you can take the door panels off and get to the "felt" or what ever it is the door uses to keep stuff from getting down in the door and replace it if you wanted to~

That's what I would do before having the tint installed. Just to make sure. It's not necessary and the odds of something happening are slim as SaleenFriend said.

Re: window tint

I had that problem on my 06.

It's not that bad tho. Only I noticed it. And you can only see it from inside the car.

Re: window tint

i think what you are talking about is the strip of moleskin
im pretty sure they only included it on 08+ or 07+
it costs like 10 bucks and if you install it itll stop the scratching. definitely worth it

Re: window tint

I had my 2008 GT windows tinted. I never heard of this -and never experienced any problem like y'all are talking about-probably just as well, as I would have "worried" about it, as well.
I've tinted almost every car and truck I've ever owned-anything that will alleviate UV in Texas, is on my "install list"!!

I have an 07, and both sides are scratched to hell. I'm going to wait till next summer to open up the doors and fix/remove the problem then get my windows re-tinted.

Re: window tint

Have an 05 v6 and that was one of the first things i did. i have had the tint for about 6 months and no problems yet. however there is a hole in the rubber strip and i keep getting a streak when i roll the window down so i try not to do that. does anyone know how much it costs to get new rubber pieces or even felt?
