Just got here...

Just decided that my '09 GT needs to be faster. Everything on engine is stock. With a $4000 budget to start with, what mods should I start with to get the most bang for the buck.

Re: Just got here...

welcome to the site.

Hmm lets see

You can do all the normal bolt ons: Exhaust, Intake, Pulley, Drive Shaft and a tune and pick up quite a bid (300-320rwhp vs stock 260 on a manual trans). That would still leave a good bit left.

If you want to not only go faster in a straight line but make the car look better and what not you can upgrade wheels/tires and lower it. A new shifter makes the car much more fun to drive as well.

You also could save up a little and do a supercharger or turbocharger to really get a hp/tq boost.

Re: Just got here...

I would say definitely a supercharger all the way if you wanna get the most performance for your budget

Welcome! I agree with SpectorV with a few bolt ons, you should be good to go.

A supercharger would be awesome too.

Spec if there was a way to give you an infinite +1 for all of your posts I would.

Re: Just got here...

ha, thanks lol. I know if I had an 05-09 GT I would have a decision to make. Do I want just bolt ons or do I want a supercharger/turbocharger. The latter will require more money, more hassle etc. The end result (max the motor can take) will be around 450rwhp. With that kind of level of mods you have to take on the responsibility that something will go wrong and put the car out of commission ~ as you simply never know what will happen.

Bolt ons give a good pick up on 05-09 models (up to say 40rwhp which aint bad) and generally wont hurt the car overall if done right (the tune is the MAIN thing here)

Got a performance shop around here that will add headers, exhaust, coldair, tune, and 4.10 gears for $3700. He is claiming it will add about 80 HP. Not sure about the number on the HP. Sounds higher then what I have reserched. Maybe thats total HP and not rwhp. Also not sure about the 4.10 gears. I have heard that they kinda mess up your car for daily driving and that they are only good for racing.

I'd be skeptikal of the 4.10 gears that's also what I've read. I think they suggest 3.73 gears max for daily driving on the GT. My guess is that 80hp is an overall claim. I personally wouldn't mess with a supercharger.

Re: Just got here...

You guys/gals make it sound so easy "add a few bolt on's" I've had my Stang for 3yrs and I still can't afford to put ONE bolt on, on the car!! Well, at least I did Exterior changes. Anyone giving parts away?! LOL

It's all about what you want to do... And how well it's done... After my last tune I dyno at 485rwhp since then I've added a cryokit... I've put roughly 37,000 miles on it since and still use it as a daily driver!

Save a little more loot and then purchase a supercharger u will be so much happier I did what ur planning on doing just to do it all again take ur time and do it right the first time it will save u a lot of headache down the road. Also 4.10 gears are way too hight lots of fun from light to light that's about it I would recomend 3.73 all around fun gears

Re: Just got here...

Supercharger is the best way and the cheapest per horse power, but you can never get enough horse power. I would wait until you save a little more and go with a Roush TVS or a Whipple they have room to grow as your budget goes up.

It seems the 03/04 Cobra is just the perfect median doesn't it?

Its not too high. Have you done headers on one of these cars? You have to drop the k member. 4.10 or 3.73 will be fine. Most people suggest 4.10's for mod motor cars because of the power band. I would definitely do a gear and a blower and shifter. Don't waste your time on underdrive pulleys and ****, the gain is minimal and you can run into charging problems.
