Ya you think the local motorsports places can do it? This place near my house called Darkside motorsports I think can do it. They installed my lowering springs and did a good job.

i googled them, couldnt really find anything on them. see if they got a website.
IF indeed it is the same darkside motor sports im thinking of, then yes they should be able to do it no problem. They just did a resto mod 67 mustang for brian austin green on hot rod tv.

see if you can post a link to their website.

Re: Gears

Hey guys, thought I would jump in here as this is an interesting topic that has always bothered me. I bought my 07 GT FR500 new and the dealer had done some mods on it already. When I drove off the lot it had the stock gears so I had to bring it back a week later to have the 4:10's put in that were supposed to come with it. When I picked it up, I was expecting a rocket but not so much. I am not sure I really noticed a difference at all. Now I am not a motor head and this is my first mustang so I really didn't have anything to compare it to. I just remember being disappointed in the fact that there wasn't much of a difference that I could notice. Maybe it is just me but I read all of the previous responses and wondered if I was missing something.

Could you tell if the gears are 4:10's by looking or is it something that needs to be measured? There was a problem with the dealer at the time it was in for the upgrade and I always wondered if they were actually put in.

Ok so what kind of gears should I get and do I need the install kit or anything like that. Cuz on American muscle it has arrows where u can add those items to the order but do I need anything else or just the gears?

If you could not feel the difference, i would bet that they did not do the job. It is easy to find out, jackup the rear of the car, mark the tire and pinon flange, count the turns of the flange to 1 turn of the tire. (1 tire turn = 4 flange turns)

You also need carrier shims but whoever installs the gear should be able to get them.

Re: Gears

you can use an RPM calculator or ask a friend (must have same transmission gearing aka same year set car) to drive at 5th gear at XX mph then you do the same (tire sizes should also be the same overall height just measure diameter and you can make sure if a little off its ok)

the rpm should be higher in your car if its about the same then... they didnt do the work.

Re: Gears

i would try to get something in writing that says if they whine or what ever in the X miles after install they fix it and have to purchase new gears... many shops try to say "you raced it" and all that BS if they have issues or didnt do their work right.
