mods for my 07' shelby gt

im looking to do a little modifying on my 07' shelby gt. its already got work done to it thanks to the shelby garage in vegas, but im looking to squeeze more out of it. i dont really know what else i could do so any advice would help. im looking at an sct tuner, underdrive pulley, coil on plugs, and a throttle body. let me know what you think.

Re: mods for my 07' shelby gt

the COP's wont be worth it and generally are more trouble than they are worth so avoid those. What did shelby in vegas do for you? so we can see what all mods you currently have.

Re: mods for my 07' shelby gt

they basically made an 07' mustang gt into a shelby gt. they added a hurst short throw shifter, a cat back exhaust with x-pipe, lowering springs, a ford racing cai, a custome tune, 18" wheels, and is a 4.6L v8 with 319hp.

Re: mods for my 07' shelby gt

the 05-09 GT's are going from about 260 stock rwhp (yours will have more since it has the Shelby mods etc) to around 300-320rwhp so the room is there with out tearing into the motor.

Re: mods for my 07' shelby gt

I would add some LTs,change the Ford Cai to a C&L or JLT and for sure get a more aggressive tune from someone like Bama,BBR or Evolution.Gears would also be something to think about. What gears are you running now?

i will definitly look into a new cai, and i was already getting a tuner for it. i will also look into the LT's. which do you prefer or think are a good brand to go with? also i dont know what gears i have right now, which sounds sad, but im new to all of this and will try to find out.

Re: mods for my 07' shelby gt

Well the 07s had the option of a 3.55 gearing so its possible that you may have those. If you are gonna get a cai and sct tuner you might as well get a combo deal which is gonna run you around $600+. American muscle does the bama tunes which are great and you will get free tunes for life.

I ran the Kooks LTs on my 07.They are quality but pricey.Ive heard good things about the pypes exhaust but never seen or heard them in person.

Re: mods for my 07' shelby gt

the only problem i have with getting the cai and tuner combo is that the only tuner that comes with it is the sct sf3 which doesnt tell you your stats once the tune is in the car and i dont live anywhere near a dyno. any advice?

Re: mods for my 07' shelby gt

i also just looked at the jba and the pypes headers on americanmuscle.com and they both say that for either header i would have to get a certain mid pipr. would i be able to use the x-pipe that i already have installed?

Re: mods for my 07' shelby gt

You could have a shop modify that exhaust to fit what you already have. Compare the price of that vs the LTs and x combo kit and see which suits you better.

Re: mods for my 07' shelby gt

I say go with the sctx3. Everyone I know that has a S197 prefers the sctx3
What is it that you don't like about it?
What kind of "stats" are you looking for that the sct can't read?

Re: mods for my 07' shelby gt

i just need a good tuner that can tell me what my gains in power are because i live no where near a dyno to have that done. so if the sctx3 can do that than im all for it. i also looked at the hearders and mid pipes i would have to get and my question is, are they worth the money? the combos i found would run me like $1000 to $1200. is it worth it?

Re: mods for my 07' shelby gt

i was planning on getting the sct livewire tuner, but if its not as good i wont. also the sooner anyone can get back to me about the LT's and mid pipes that i found and if they are worth the money that would be great. im trying to get all the parts i need before i get back home from afghanistan so i can do it all at once, so please try to respond asap. thanks

Re: mods for my 07' shelby gt

Tuner is not gonna be able to tell you what your gains are. Is that $1k+ Lt package include mid pipe? If so that's a good deal depending on the brand. On another note, when I did the mods on my 07 I waited until I had all the parts and slapped them on at once. The only mods I had before cai, tune and full exhaust were axelbacks and 4.10 gears.

With that being said......after I installed kooks LTs and catted H,C&L cai,and a 93 octane Bama race tune I took it out for a drive.I seriously could not wipe the smile off my face.To me it was worth it and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Re: mods for my 07' shelby gt

yes the $1k+ LT's do come with the mid pipe and they are kooks. and im doing just what you said and waiting to have all the parts before i throw all of them on. as for the tuner, the livewire says that it can estimate your gains. does it actually work or is it not worth the extra money just for that?

Re: mods for my 07' shelby gt

Its just a estimate. Go with the SCTx3,alot of tuners are using them so if you ever want to get a dyno tune the SCT is a common one used by tuners. I say go for those kooks! I will post a dyno vid of my old 07 so you can check it out.Actually it might be in the video section here.

Are you in the military dude? If you are thank you for what you are doing. Check out american muscle.com.that's were igot my off roah pipe and jba longtubes. I want to say the total came out to be $700-750. The set up is really nice but if you have to have cats then you are gonna have to spend a thousand bucks or so. I have cams waiting to be installed and I'm hoping with all my mods I should get around 330-340 rwhp

I would really consider the long tube headers get more torque and free up some air. I would do the tuner for sure.

Re: mods for my 07' shelby gt

i will definitly go with the sctx3 tuner now. the only reason i wanted the livewire was because they say it tells you your gains but if its not exact then what do i care. and if i have to spend $1k+ i will probably go with the kooks LT's for sure. and i will watch your vid when i get the chance. and yes i am in the military. im in afghanistan right now so im trying to get everything bought for when i get home. so thanks everyone, every little bit helps.

Nah,you sound like you are on the right track. Not much of a gain with cams if they are not paried up with LTs but I see you already have the LTs. For example one of our local forum members has a 06 with O.R. midpipe, axelbacks,CAI and tune.He added FRPP hot rod cams and barely hit 310whp on dyno day. Another member has almost the same mods but factor in LTs and a M.M. dyno tune and he was at 340-60 whp (I HONESTLY DONT REMEMBER EXACT NUMBERS) so I would say its possible for you.

I wouldn't touch it. Ford Racing CAI's are already great intakes. There wouldn't be a difference between the steeda and the ford racing one.

There have been test ran where the C&L and JLT have both out performed the Ford cai.I wouldn't say its a must have right but something I would deff change later down the line.

Re: mods for my 07' shelby gt

I just joined mustangevolution.com and am also interested in mods for '07 Shelby Gt. This thread has been very informative for me as well. Instead of posting a new thread with the question I have, I thought about just adding into this. Recently both my exhaust pipes were damaged and I am looking into what type of exhaust to get? I have been browsing through STRAIGHT THROUGH / RESONATOR MUFFLER AXLE-BACKS and CHAMBERED MUFFLER AXLE-BACKS. Do you know what the make and size of the original exhausts are on '07? Any help would be most appreciated!!
