Headers

I want to get headers but I'm worried about the smog test this summer. Is there any that will still pass smog? Because I really don't want to have to have them taken off and then put back on

Re: Headers

headers shouldn't effect your smog test as long as you still have cats

Ya but I've heard that even high flow cats can sometimes not pass. Cuz i live in California and most the x pipes are even illegal. And I talked to this guy from a nearby customizing shop and he said longtubes won't pass smog and even the shorty headers wont either. He said the jba shorty headers are about the only ones that will pass.

And I guess here they do an inspection test where they look under the vehicle and stuff to make sure it's all good. And then they do the sniffer test.

Find a set of shorties that bolt up to the factory midpipe. And just swap back to the factory midpipe when u have to get inspected. Swap back and have another year before u have to worry about it again.

On all of my other mustangs I've used Mac. Good prices and bolt right up. Had full Mac on my notch and that thing sounded awesome.

Ya I like mac as well. I'll probably get the Mac shortys and then later on a mac x pipe and i already have flowmaster American thunder axle backs so it should sound pretty good after all that.

Probably will since you're still keeping your stock cats. lots of people like BBK shorties or BBk tuned shorty headers from American Muscle.

Ok any other suggestions anyone? I got axle backs so I was thinkin of getting the headers and then get an x pipe. I just don't want that raspy noise. I love the deep muscle car sound.

You can use any kind of headers, Long or Short tube. With a catted X or H pipe and a well written custom tune your car will pass the emissions test. I like Kooks products. Expensive but worth every penny!

Ya I love the kooks headers with there catted x pipe. It sounds so good. They are expensive I need to save up a little more cash before I do that but it will still pass smog with long tubes? Because a lot of people say it won't.

Definitely double check with a quality tuner in California but from what I have heard they will pass with the right tune.

Ya I'll have to check. I have the SCT tuner from bama. Can't they make an emissions tune to make it pass?
