4.10 Gears

I wanna order a set of ford racing 4.10 gears soon. There 155 buks on American muscle. The question is to have them installed at a local place do I need all the extras like the installation and bearing kit and the 8.8 inch rear gear pinion bearing or can I just buy the gears for 155 without the extras?

Re: 4.10 Gears

If it were me I would order the install kit as well. Will probably save you money in the long run because the installer will need the parts anyway and will charge you for them anyway at his charge.

he will charge u an insane mark-up for that stuff. prolly only use 1 shim, then use the rest of the kit on someone's car..

Re: 4.10 Gears

it varies, ive been quoted up to 600 bucks, some of the guys here have gotten it done for as lil as 200 bucks. i traded some race car parts i wasnt using when i got mine done. i think i spent 900 dollars to get my ram done. it really depends on who you know. but you definatley wanna make sure you take it to someone reputable and knowledgable. and just cause they quote u a large dollar amount doesnt mean they are good. take your time and shop around, ask ppl wit hot rods in your area where they go...ask them if their gears whine or not (it's ok to talk to chevy ppl too). just ask around, dont jump on the first shop that says they can do it...ask around, you'll be glad you did.

Why don't you just swap rear ends? Wouldn't that be easier?

Re: 4.10 Gears

yea do not skimp on rear end gears, find a shop that KNOWS what they are doing, not just some crappy place because its cheap. If they do it wrong the gears can make noise or even fail.

Ford racing went over to motive to do their gears and motive are known to whine more so than OEM ford used to, just FYI to be even more careful.

Its not just as easy as shimming and your done you have to check and do more than that.

im taking the gears from my 92 notch and putting them in my 97 v6 (soon to be a v8).... im taking everything from my 92 and putting it in my 97. minus the harness..i got a 95gt harness so it fits the car better instead of retro-fitting the foxbody harness.

im just swap'n the gears and trac-loc to the 97. who wants a 4lug 97 right?

Ok I will but Ken do you know of a good shifter for an automatic? My shifter Is about to go out. I was looking at the tci ratchet shifter. Is it any good? I don't like a lot of the shifters like b&m and others because there so big and bulky.

If anyone knows more about it please let me know. But I read quite a few reviews on it and for the most part everyone loves the shifter and says it works great.

I ordered the TCI shifter on Saturday and should receive it sometime this week. I'll let you know how I like it.

Ya well I'm pretty pissed cuz it's on back order for about 2 to 3 weeks. And I ordered it on stage3motorsports and they contacted me yesterday telling me that and on American it was out of stock so that's why I ordered it on stage3. But on there web site it didn't say **** about if it was in stock or on back order or anything so I wasn't happy at all because if I knew that I wouldn't have ordered it yet.
