Driveshaft vibration with 1 piece alum DS

Last year I purchased a one piece driveshaft and ever since I have had a vibration above 100 mph.
I reduced it significantly by rotation the DS a bolt at a time and now 180 degrees from where I started.
The vibration is not that bad but still noticeable. I didn't have any vibration before so I am beginning to wonder if the $ spend on this mod was worth it. I have read that my pinion angle might be off considering the cars racecraft suspension.
Anyone else have a lowered car with sim problems? Wondering if I am on the right track with this adjustable upper control arm. I'm sure once I get urn the car and measure the pinion angle I'll know if that is the problem.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Mike

Re: Driveshaft vibration with 1 piece alum DS

my cobra has the factory ford alum driveshaft and they are known to have vibration in the higher mph, mine vibrates a bit around 80 mph but settles back out at 95~

You did lessen your pinion angle by lowering the car no doubt but I dont think that would make it worse~

Re: Driveshaft vibration with 1 piece alum DS

This is a factory Saleen. It had no vibration before the alumDS upgrade. I'm kind of wishing I kept the stock one..

This is getting to be one of those don't fix it if it ain't broken mods.

Don't go 100 mph !!! I KNOW ITS HARD NOT to do !!!
maybe a u joint ? or pinion angle ? or maybe u bought a drive shaft that wasn't balanced properly from the manufacturer ..

Def check your U-Joints and see if you can have your pinion angle checked. Lastly as stated check the balance on the driveshaft with a local shop that specializes in driveshafts.

Re: Driveshaft vibration with 1 piece alum DS

they make a big difference in 05+ the stock one is SO HEAVY. Every 1lb of rotating mass is equal to about 10lbs of dead weight so you may only save 20lbs but thats like 200lbs of dead weight

Re: Driveshaft vibration with 1 piece alum DS

If your car is lowered , you need an adjustable upper control arm , and need to set the pinion angle. I had same problem, it was even stated on the install instructions from Coast DS.

Re: Driveshaft vibration with 1 piece alum DS

Ok. To report my findings...
I installed the upper control arm and got the angle a little closer. The vibration isn't as bad so I must be on the right trail.
I'm in germany right now so it is a little hard to find a driveshaft shop. I think once I get it back in the states this summer I'll take it in. Of course I won't be able to drive at 100+ all the time.
I'm going to rotate the DS another 45degrees on the pinion to see if that helps a little.
Maybe it's my new tires but but it feels like it is hooking up a little better as well.
