Gear ratio?

Ok so in up to the point where I wanna re do the fears but don't know what ones to get! I think 3.75's would do the trick. Planning on it being a weekend street fun car. I'm into grand am racing so I'm not a fan of 4.10 gears due to I don't drag much. Still I love the get up and go of it. It's a 06 gt.

Re: Gear ratio?

Is it an auto or manual? If it's a manual get 4.10s or just keep the 3.55s. Going from 3.55 to 3.73 is a waste of time and money. Auto, 3.73 would be a good choice. 3.31 to 3.73 is a nice step up.

It's a manual. I just like having top end and I am afraid I will lose done of my top end if I go with 4.10? Will I?

You will lose your top end with 4.10's.

Re: Gear ratio?

In what way will 4.10s loose top end? These cars are drag limited to 147 MPH. In theory with 4.10s and 27" the car will top out at 179.79 in 5th gear. Also 4.10s will accelerate much faster than 3.55s especially in the sweet spot at 55-60. My friend has an 05 Mustang GT with 3.55s. He wanted me to try out his new dyno tune. I was impressed but when entering the hwy at 55-60 in 3rd, I was a little disappointed. It had been a while since I drove a S197 with 3.55s. My friend then drove my car and he was impressed.

Ok looks like I was confused. Then if 4.10's won't hurt my tip end and I get that bottom end I want. Thanks!

Re: Gear ratio?

4.10s are a worth while mod. I drive over 60 miles per. day and I don't regret getting them at all.

Ya..a t45 revs at 6000 at 160 mph. I have 3.90s and 6000 rpm is 172. I guess the question is how much 160 mph driving do you do. Honestly the top speed is a mute point. It's about how fast you wanna get there. And going from 3.55 to 3.73 won't give you much extra pull. At least 3.90s. And I get about 26 mpg on the highway in my 5 speed

Re: Gear ratio?

3.73 would be the so called "sweet spot" for a daily driver type car~ it wont be a HUGE gain like many tell you going from 3.31 and to fix the speedo a tune will be required (or a tuner at least)
