Heat Exchanger Install

Hi guys I thought I would post a few pictures of the installation of an Afco Shelby GT500 heat exchanger I installed in my 2005 Mustang GT with a Inter cooled Whipple supercharger today.

I recently installed the supercharger and when I was getting a custom tune from Dez Racing they strongly suggested I change the Whipple heat exchanger for the Afco unit. They recommend it because its noticeably larger and it's dual pass where the Whipple is not. Also, the Afco holds quite a bit more fluid which helps keep the temps down.

Here are some comparison pictures

I like the way it fit. I was innitially concerned that it wouldnt fit correctly because its tecnically for a GT500 but it fit like a glove.

Also, I was able to move the coolant pump from the location Whipple has it to the top of the heat exchanger exactly like the GT500 does. I really like where it is now because its behind the front bumper and up high and not down low to the ground. I feel like its safer where it is now.

The installation was pretty straight forward and the directions were spot on. It came with everything needed to install. Between this and the larger aluminum coolant reservoir I have doubled the coolant volume of the intercooler system.

What kind of supercharger setup are you using?

Mine was way below the front bumper cover on the drivers side literally 10" from the ground. I feel safer now that its up high behind the bumper. Was worried about parking curbs and the like when my wife drives it
