From cats to no cats

Hi guys & girls, I have an 05 Whippled GT with Kooks LT headers and Catted H pipe. I want to switch to and off-road H pipe and was wondering if there is any reason I can't just switch out the H pipes. In other words, will I "need" a re-tune? I understand to benefit from a catless h pipe I will need a tune but will running a catless pipe with a tune for cats be a problem for a few months till I can afford a re-tune?

Re: From cats to no cats

No retune, but your check engine light may come on. I swap mine out in summer for racing. I use a 2step, and that can hurt the cats.

I would think it might cause it to run a little leaner than it is now. I would be a little worried about running it without a retune with your whipple on it.

You will be fine. Your front o2s will work as normal. The front two o2s are the ones that watch your air to fuel ratio. The rear two are for cat efficiency only. It will set a light for cat efficiency but will not affect your air to fuel ratio I say do it!

Absolutely love them. I have been running Magnaflow for years and use them on my F150 to. Typical muscle car performance and sound imo

Not sure what you call them but they are the size of a normal muffler (2 chamber I guess) and are stainless. Paid about $450 for H pipe back

Still has a nice quiet idle so it can be quiet when needed. I would say it's very noticeably louder but in a good way when under acceleration. I absolutely love the sound of it now. Only negative is i can smell fumes more than before but not a deal breaker.

Ohh I see. I'm about to do LTs and x pipe but I need cats cuz I'm in California. I was just seeing what it was like without cats.

Mass needs cats to but I have been able to keep the check engine code off long enough to get a sticker with 02 spacers on my off road H pipe. I have a local shop that doesn't visually check so I'm good.

Ya are Ur mufflers the chambered ones or the thin oval shaped mufflers? I went on autoanything and it was kind of hard to figure out which ones you had. I'm either going to go with Borla stingers or magnaflow.

Oh geez, I got them last summer and without digging up the receipt I thought I paid $450. One of three things;

1. They were on sale
2. That's what's burned in my memory from telling the wife that's what I paid
3. Old age is setting in and I completely had a brain fart.

My guess 2 & 3

Lol, probably 2... If I had a wife, I wouldn't tell her I paid that much.
