08 GT rev limiter

I bought an 08 gt with 2000 miles on it and it has no rev limiter it doesn't hit a limiter just falls on it's face at 6000 rpm? Is that normal? Kind of a newbie with this engine...

It's a soft rev limiter if you get a programmer it will get rid of that.

I just thought it would ride the limiter but it literally just loses all power is that how it is suppose to work? It hits 6000 and then it nose dives cause it drops that much...and it's a standard so I don't know

Re: 08 GT rev limiter

good question, not sure how the limiter works but I would think it wouldnt kick in until a bit over 6k~ of course there is no point in reving that high.

Well the reason I even ask is cause it broke lose once it a turn in first and I held it out and to my knowledge of any other car I've driven it would just I guess keep banging on the limiter? If that's how I should state it but my threw a fit and just shut down and i have heard my friends 06 gt bang when he had it burning out on take off....I mean I was just curious as to why they would act the same

That is your traction control. Its the worst thing about those cars. I have an 06 gt. With the tcs off your still gonna get the soft limiter. When I put a tuner on my car it did what you described you friends car doin.

See I thought maybe the tuner had a roll in it but neither of us were sure but that gives me more piece of mine that it's not acting stupid...thanks for the input!

Re: 08 GT rev limiter

You can turn off your traction control, but it will always reset and come back on the next time you start your car. I wouldn't call them the worst thing about these cars; there are other cars out there that won't let you (totally) defeat traction control. If you are traveling in a straight line, traction control can give a fair amount of leeway, but if you are crossed up and all, it will shut you down hard, which is what you experienced.

If you have a Mustang with a lot of power, it is real easy to burn up the rear brake pads because of traction control... I've been told that Roush recommends shutting it off...

I don't think of it as evil, but it does catch a guy off guard sometimes... I am almost positive it has saved me from doing something stupid, more than once.

Your car is fine... You just need to get used to it's invasive safety controls..

Re: 08 GT rev limiter

Your rev limiter should be 6200rpm from the factory.

I have a 08 gt the rev limiter is 6000 rpm and it will fall on it's face when you hit it. With that being said I just bought cold air intake and sct tuner and now my rev limiter is at 6500 and if I it 6500 it will fall on it's face that what a rev limiter is and what it does it's not like a Honda were you can shift it at 9000.

What makes it different from my friends 06 cause his will just bang on the limiter and not shut down....I mean I don't do it it's just that time it happened it was surprising cause I have heard his ride it out

Re: 08 GT rev limiter

Like some of the guys said, it's your traction control, it pulls the ignition and applies the rear brake when it thinks you are out of control or just about going out. The rev limiter just cuts the ignition that why you can bounce off of it. Question, why in th h*ll would you want to bounce of the rev limiter...............because its there? I guess soon we are going to see"my engine blew up and I don't know why"

Re: 08 GT rev limiter

I'm like 99% sure its not traction control cuz mine will do that to but I don't have traction control...its just what normally happens, you either have to get used to it or get a tune.

It's not that I want to do it...my shuts down and my friends doesnt it happened to me once and I wondered why is all.. I don't drive around trying to redline my car it was a simple question but people can't just acknowledge that if you had something act different wouldn't you question it just to see if everything was ok?

These motors build power at high rpm. If your haulin' ass there is nothing wrong with redlining it.
