Performance Chip Installed?

I purchased my car from a dealership and I believe a performance chip is installed in it. It's an 05 GT. Is there any way of telling besides the check engine light being on and taking the dealerships word that one was installed?

Don't take there word if your check engine light is on and you just bought the car from a dealership you make them find the reason its on.

Re: Performance Chip Installed?

performance chips dont turn the check engine light on. in most cases they turn it off. i would get them to scan it since you bought it from them like that. dealers are not supposed to lie to you about a car.. legally they cant.. dont mean they wont lie though

Your correct. Chips ended in 95. 96 was the first year of obd2 and ppl just flash them now. I still refer to a tuner as a chip sometimes cause I'm used to saying chips

Re: Performance Chip Installed?

a check engine light does not mean the car has a "chip in it" most 05+ have a custom tune loaded on the computer, so there is no chip.

Re: Performance Chip Installed?

cool guys thanks for the info. I knew about obd II I just thought there was still a chip involved. So basically they make it easier to tune your car by plugging a computer into it? Do they make tuners that you can keep permanently installed and tune on the fly?

If youre using à SCT flash kind of modell every car has it's own device. One device=one car. Thats it. And only then you can restore it to stock setting. You can custom rune your car in 10 minutes! So, if it's tuned, there should be a device with the car. And it will NOT turn on any dash lights what so ever. But know this, just if you install a cold air kit, as simple as that, you MUST reprogram your CPU with a flash SCT or something... Or your dash will light up like a christmas tree!
