Re: Car PC

I've looked into it a good bit, but never actually went through with it. Even went so far as to buy a microITX system, and everything. It's still something that I'd like to do, but I don't currently have the time, money, and necessary desire. Maybe one day, though.

I was going to buy a 7" lcd touch screen monitor and put it in place of the shaker 500 system. And put the actual computer in the trunk. You think that would work?

To cheap....to expensive. Sounds like you need to find a easy medium ground. Something like that you should probably do it right the first time so that you are happy with it. I know lots of people that have done mods like paint and thought they were getting a deal but in the end the were disappointed. Were you wanting to flush mount it in the dash?

Not too expensive. I meant to add too much work. I have an iPad so the price is already done with that mod. It's just I was reading about it and from what I read the guy did a whole lot of cutting on his dash.

And to answer your question. yes, I am wanting to remove the shaker, and place a touch screen in that spot.

How much did you pay for your microITX system?

I would just do a touch screen there if you dont wanna cut into the dash. Also if you decide to sell the car down the road you will have to include the ipad, replace it with a touch screen or replace the whole dash and add a shaker....now thats alot of work.

Re: Car PC

Why not use the Ford computor that comes in the F-350, Fits in the mustang, has options like wireless keyboard, printer. Still gives you radio, and Nav

The new computers are tied into many different modules. It would not function correctly because you wouldn't have all the modules needed

They're generally pretty cheap. I think I paid somewhere in the neighborhood of $200, for mine. It had all the necessary parts, just had to hook up keyboard, monitor, mouse. I ended up trading it to my neighbor for a Baretta 92FS.
