Axle backs

I just recently had pypes long tubes and the kooks catted x pipe installed. I have flowmaster American thunder axle backs and I don't really like the sound now. It's too raspy and has a tingy sound. I want more of a deeper tone with not as much rasp. I was thinking magnaflow or stingers. What do you guys suggest?

Re: Axle backs

I would suggest a H pipe. All that rasp is coming from the X.

I know the rasp is also from the x pipe but I've heard some setups with an x pipe where there isn't too much raspiness at all.

Dump the flows. That's where your tin sound it more than likely coming from.

Re: Axle backs

The stock mufflers on my Saleen are made by Edelbrock- they are good and loud, no drone, and have the typical Edelbrock build quality-

Edelbrock.com - Exhaust - Introduction

Here is a link to a sound file of them installed on a 2005 Mustang GT-

I would go with Stingers. I just replaced my Flowmasters. Couldnt be happier. They are deeper. Youtube doesnt do them justice. The x pipe just doesnt work well with Flowmasters. You can use either O/R pipe with the Stingers.

Ya I'll probably end up going with the stingers. I've always liked the sound that they make.

Re: Axle backs

I have an x-pipe and Borla stingers and love them! The key to cutting down the rappy sound from the x-pipe is to use either high flow cats or resonators.
