Need more power

HI guys,
How much RWHP can you safely run through a standard Auto trans...
ball park figures???
I run 420HP but a CAI and pulley change plus new tune will see maybe 460-470 HP,just wondered if the standard Auto will cope.

any thoughts appreciated.

Stu.

Re: Need more power

500 is pushin it if its a daily driver. Ive seen your model auto trans hold more than that, and also blow with less than that. It honestly depends upon how hard you plan on beatin it, and how much its been driven or beaten up already.

Re: Need more power

I put down 500 RWHP on my auto trans with out issue but I don't beat the crap out of it either. The auto trans on our cars can hold up to 700 crank HP

The auto trans gets no respect but can hold more power then a 5 speed. The one problem is don't abuse and it will take care of you

If we're still talking about Mustang GT -05, they say here in Sweden that you shouldn't pass 400 HP. I think it sounds like bull****. A Mustang is a real piece of work! But what do you think? And if you tune it with a SCT flash device or likewise, to make it shift faster, good or bad for transmission or clutch? Please, share with me...

You'll blow the rods out of the bottom end (if it's still stock) before your tranny goes. 475-500 and up, and you're playing with fire depending on how you drive it

are you saying you have 420hp with cai/pulley/tune? if so that is not accurate, not sure exactly how you are saying that though.

With pulley, intake, tune, exhaust~ you should be between 280rwhp-300rwhp in the auto... maybe 290 (depends on many factors and dyno setup and how aggressive the tune is)... or about 350-360hp at the flywheel~ something around there.

But as said your motor is usually good to 450-500rwhp (tune is VERY important here on the stock motor with a power adder)

What do you think of the fast shifting? It feels like it shift in 0,3 sec or something. Every shift is like a kick in the back... And I don't race my car, simply a kickdown from time to time. In have never "burnt rubber" and such things. Am I a good driver then?

Billet 62mm Throttle Body
Is this something you should have? Or is it just overrated?

I was more referring to if your car is boosted, how often it sees high rpm and high boost conditions. If you're only running like 8lbs and don't consistently run it to the limiter, you SHOULD be good to go

SpectorV is accurate in his statement here. For this amount of stuff, the HP numbers are not "Threw the roof".

Re: Need more power

Safe limit on the 4.6 is 500rwhp. Having said that I know people that blew them up with 420rwhp and also know some the run well over 500rwhp for years. It really all depends on how good your tuner is and how you drive it. If you have a lead foot and can't control yourself everytime you leave a red light or if you road race with she may go boom a lot sooner.
I was running 465rwhp for well over two years and just put long tubes on which gave me at least another 30rwhp, we'll see how she lasts.............
The weak point in our engines are the rods, they can't handle the torque.

I looked at his sig, he has a Roush 420RE, so he's making 420flywheel HP

The rods are what the pistons are attached to, which basically makes up the bottom end of the motor. If you're planning on going huge hp, go Aluminator rather than rebuilding the bottom end. That's what I'd do anyway
