Supercharger for stock 4.6 3v

I would like opinions on SuperChargers for my 2007 4.6 3V GT, It's Stock Engine with only a Steeda High Flow CAI, a SCT custom Tune and 410 gears, Automatic. I'm planning on buying a SC for it and need opinions on which SC to get. I was told to be careful in which one I chose, cause on stock Engines, the wrong one could blow or cause big damage on the Engine. No I do not plan on getting any Mods done to internal Engine, just the Bolt on's I have already. I was told that "Saleen and Roush" are a couple good choices in the groupe to consider. What does everyone else think? and what's your opinion on the Steeda/Roush idea??

I would look into the edelbrock supercharger. It is the most complete kit ive seen. Also Ken belle is supposed to have good superchargers... Good luck in your search! I hope this helped...

Thanks for Input comment "eouellette18", I'll check out the "Edelbrock stuff", but I heard negative comments about the Kenne Belle stuff and their Customer Servive department.

Re: Supercharger for stock 4.6 3v

That's how I started out too...
It's not the choice of superchargers that will cause the damage, it's how much boost you will put into the engine. On stock internals (In my opinion) don't go over 10psi. Edelbock is a good choice but kenne Bell is great too. It really depends on how much money you want' to spend.
I do recommend to go with an intercooled blower vs a non intercooled, you will make more power with the intercooled one. The one I am running is no longer made since the company went out of business (Techco), but I am making 465+RWHP at 9psi with that blower on stock internals.

Good luck with the upgrade, you won't regret it.

"05Bluestang" thanks for that Info, I will definately go with a "Intercooled" blower". Whats your opinion on "Whipple blowers, Roots and Screw type and Vortech" SuperChargers??

Re: Supercharger for stock 4.6 3v

It performs quite well after about 3,000 rpm not so much at takeoff but I never had a superchargerso I don't really know how they are supposed to perform.

Screw and roots types maker power from the bottom up, centi blowers are great too but the power comes in at higher rpm (~3K i think). Can't go wrong with either. Mine is a reverse twin screw which means instead of blown down into the heat exchanger and intake, mine blows up though the heat exchangers into runners and into the heads. Just a different design to make more torque, but my intake air temps are fairly low (~125deg/f @ 90 deg/f ambient) at he the runner before it goes into the head (my IAT is measured after the blower, not before). Lower IAT = more power.

Here is a pic of mine.

Hey "Beav", thanks for the input, let me ask you, it looks good by the way, but as far as you know, your car is stock internals right? no inside Engine modifications right? Do you know the Stats on your Super Charger?? PS I think that Red and White is "off the chain" HOT.

Re: Supercharger for stock 4.6 3v

Thanks, I love my car, it gets a LOT of attention..
My blower is an Eaton M 90 and the internals are stock in my three valve 4.6... It is running a fairly low boost, 5 lbs., as it stands, and it gets a claimed 427 hp although I have not dyno'd it... A pulley change, a cai, and a dyno tune could put it close to 500... M 90's are maxed out at that point..

CAPA : Eaton Superchargers

Re: Supercharger for stock 4.6 3v

The main issue for you that I see is that your running 4.10's with an auto trans. Once you add in a SC your going to have real traction issues do to the fact that an auto trans has lower 1st & 2nd gears than a manual trans. 3.73's is where you really want to be on a SC auto trans to get your best performance on the street. With your gears I would go with a centi SC since it will let you hook up before it starts dumping power to the wheels. The 4.10's will get you to the 3K fast which is when your centi will start making power. I run a Paxton Novi 2200 HO with my auto trans and stock block and I'm pushing 10 1/2 psi on the top end and put down 500 RWHP and I don't have any issues but "I have a great dyno tune by one of the best auto tuners around" and that is one of the primary reasons why I don't have issues. I also don't go around beating the crap out of my motor either but I don't baby too.

"CutterWolf" Thanks for that "Straight forward" Info that is good honest stuff I needed to hear. I'm not plannning to change my Gears and it's good to know that stuff. I've kinda felt that which you said "before", those gears are grabby and I kinda wondered what they would do if I threw a crap load of power on them all of a sudden. But like you, I'm not a run around Beater of my car either, normal mostly but some times you have to put your foot DOWN and show people how big your Balls are, and who's got the Magic.LOL.

I'm gonna check out that "Paxton Novi 2200 HO. Thanks.

I'm with cutter. I'm also running a centrifugal sc on my mustang. I have a procharger kit though. I made 521 rwhp at 10 psi with my kit but I had my tuner tune it down to 495. I love the kit and would recommend it to anyone! I put it on in a weekend and the only other thing I added was 1 degree colder plugs. The instructions and build quality were great and is easy to put on. Do your research and decide what is best for you because it's a big decision! If you go with procharger let me know and I'll be happy to give you my number and answer any questions you might come across.
