1/4 mile

IM going to a 1/4 mile next weekend and wanted to know a good goal? I've never gone to a strip before so I'm not sure on the launch! All I have is a MAC exhaust
and a K&N Intake.

So tell me what you think.... I was hopping for something like high 13's. Is that achiveable?

Re: 1/4 mile

I would say more like mid to high 14's. and that all depends on traction coming out of the gate so to speak. if you spin the tires your R/T's going to be higher which means your times are going to be longer. the lower the R/T's the better the time. if you don't have sticky tires on that thing, and some other minor suspension mods, I'm not sure you can get to the 13's but .. I've been known to be wrong before. I used to race 1/4 a lot with my old firebird at the NHRA strip in memphis for test n tune, best $20 I ever spent tues/thurs nights!

Track in memphis is back open!!!!

But yeh, seat time is going to be your friend. I ran a full second slower my first few passes at the track. After some seat time and the right tires I'm finally closer to where I need to be.

I always had better luck in the left lane too rather than the right .. could never get traction .. cant wait to see your times!! good luck!! lower the tire pressure a bit on back, will expand as you do burnout .. but I'm sure you know all the tricks .. giggle .. have fun!!

MIR is definitely hooking...broke a halfshaft on my 4th pass thursday night. Need to come out sometime.

OP, not bad base times, now practice will be your friend. You can start playing with different launch techniques. The better you are off the line, the better your overall times will be.

Well the first two runs I went around the water box dumped the clutch at 2000rpms and got too much wheel spin, that's when I ran a 14.5 the next two runs I went around the water box but this time I did a small burnout just to get the dirt and stuff off my tires, and dumped it at 2000 rpm! I ran 14.1 both times! Only a little wheel spin! So the last time I let some air out of my tires, went around the water box, did a small burnout, and dumped it at 2000rpm. But this time my motor bogged down a little, because I didn't dump it hard enough! I ran a 14.6 . Next Friday I'm going to dial in my techniques and hit 13.9!!

Awesome man! Keep chipping away at it. My very first pass was a 14.4 followed with some high 15's a 17 and a couple high 13's that night. Next time at the track pulled low to mid 13's all day long. my recent outing was a couple high 12's. Looking for low 12's next time out with the spray. Just have fun with it!

High 12's?! Whats you setup? And how do you prefer to launch?

Mac longtubes
Pypes offroad h and mid muffler set up
I deleted my charge motion plates myself
Frpp hotrod cams
Frpp 4.10's
Bama 93 race tune
Frpp k springs
Steeda short throw
Jlt cai
And also some nitto nt05's at a 275/35/18. They're not the R compound but still nice and sticky when warmed up quite a bit. Either buying the R compound next time around or some Mickey t's just not sure yet.
Launching the first pass on the tires was a straight 3500 dump. It hooked and went at a 12.9. After the first pass the tires didn't hook aswell and required a little slipping of the clutch sometimes. Main problem I ran into was spinning in 2nd and sometimes the beginning of 3rd as they didn't prep very well. I think the car has a 12.5 in it off the bottle with the right prep and some DR's. Still had a ton of fun hitting 12's.
Just hooked up a 125 shot today. Now just waiting for plugs and a dyno tune and looking for some low 12's maybe high 11's next outing.

Btw once I left the line every pass was power shifting. (foot never leaves the floor while shifting)

But Wouldn't power shifting make you loose grip into 2nd and 3rd?

Awesome man. Track days are like crack. It's so addicting lol. My buddy has my twin. Both of is are set up pretty much the same. Same bolt ons just slightly different brands. Cars look the same and sound the same. But he's got an frpp manifold, bbk throttle body, and underdrive pullies. He ran a 12.7 that same night I went.
I made two pulls with the 100 shot and there is definately a noticeable difference in power IMO. Will post back on the next strip outing how she does!

Sometimes it hooked and sometimes it didn't. Tried not power shifting once and ran a mid 13 and still broke loose. In 2nd so I just kept powershifting the rest of the night lol.

Here is a 2005 that turns low 12's pictures below look at pictures 1 through 13 there are pictures showing a 12.09 at Commerce speed way north of Atlana. With all you added on I would look at adding CAMS and a good engine tuner, you should be turning high 12's
