Is it hard to change the trans fluid on a 5spd? Ive done it plenty times to my auto and each time was a nightmare since there's no drain plug on the 4R70w. What type of Royal Purple do the 5spds take? Trans fluid or gear oil? I just bought my stang and would like to change all the fluids

Sorry I can't really answer those questions!.. I've got an auto!.. Surprised no one with a stick has chimed in yet!.. You should get a Chiltons or Hayns manual if you haven't do so yet!..

I'll be changing mine soon. The way I plan on it is dropping the tranny case and pouring the fluids out then putting it back together. Then I'll take the shifter lever off and pouring the fluid in that way. It's the only way I figure to change the 5spd tranny oil. In my old Tahoe there was a tube in the engine compartment youcould fill up.. Lol

There is a drain plug and a fill plug on the left side of the tranny if I'm not mistaken. You could use a clear tubing and route it t trough the shifter opening .... Good luck

There is a fill and drain plug. Easy enough to get at. After draining, Leave the fill plug open and pour ATF trans fluid in the trans when you have the shifter off. When it overflows, its full. Clean up, replace top fill plug, install new short shifter (hehe) and ur done. Total time, about an hour.

Pennzoil synchromesh is rebottled GM fluid which is what tremec reccomends. Did mine at 50k. Got quieter, shifts a little smoother and wasn't much hassle. Just don't tell your baby your putting something with a relationship to GM in her

The 2005-current has a remote shifter setup so the shifter does not go down into the trans. You will need to fill it with a hose.

Re: trans oil

It took me less than 45 minutes using this method:

MustangForums.com - View Single Post - A How To: changing manual transmission fluid

Tremec recommends Mobile 1 Synthetic ATF as an upgrade to OEM. I use Royal Purple Syncromax and personally have good things to say about smoother shifts and cooler temps. Tremec does not recommend RP but only because they have not done long term tests.

Just level out the car on equal height jack stands and have at it.
