Carbon Fiber dash kits

Finally found a CF dash kit I like and now I'm back pedaling a little. Has anyone done one? I love the simplicity of my cabin, but I have a huge carbon fiber fetish I'm worried it will look ... I don't know... Overdone.... Gaudy? Thoughts?

It depends on your interior!... I did one but I've got a grey interior so it actually blends in a bit!... I've also done some billet trim pieces too!...

Yeah it's real - it says 'real carbon fiber' and it better be for that price - so if I get it and it's not real it's going back... My interior is charcoal/black... so the black/silver grey color would look good I think... I have a legend lime so my color options are somewhat limited...

My 07 Cal Sp. came with some and it looks cool. I'd like to have a little more. But some kits have every single surface which may be a little gaudy.

The leather dash looks great- ive never seen that on a Stang before... It's definitely not a standard thing - on the 05-09 S197s anyway. I have about decided on the kit that does not cover the OEM aluminum. That will be just enough to look nice. Planning on doing it end of next week

Re: Carbon Fiber dash kits

Personally, I am not a fan of carbon fiber for "decoration" no matter how small it is. The intent of carbon fiber is to maintain strength while reducing weight, so, IMHO, I see little point in using it for a purely cosmetic purpose. If it provides some, even mild, gains to a vehicle, I can justity its use, but just to accent a dashboard or center console, that's not for me.

That being said, the only interior "upgrades" I ever intend to do are a new head unit (already done), racing seats, & rear-seat delete. Otherwise my interior is going to remaing the same as it did when it rolled off the line...

Brushed Aluminum look comes factory hell its prob the dash in your car, and aluminum is used for its light weight and strength not for its looks right? So I assume you sprayed your dash flat black right?

Sorry had to be a jerk but CF and others is a style just as it is useful in the racing scene or aviation or safety equipment, also as long as its done in good taste I think it's fine, if it was that bad of an idea ford would have simulated CF dash in my mustang or my in old Pontiac, and doesn't BMW and mercedes come with CF trim pieces

Rapinator yours is very tasteful - looks great.

The kit I'm looking at does not even cover the OEM aluminum, which I like. It does the center console, areas around the head unit, dome light cover and other little accent areas like around the locks and door handles - its on CarID

The rousch kit looks amazing and I hear good things but it's way way more expensive. If I wanted to do the whole dash I'd suck it up and buy the rousch kit- but I'm saving to do my suspension right now so I gotta budget

I think you missed my point entirely. Yes, I do have the factory brushed aluminum, but as you so astutely noted it is FACTORY! I didn't put it in there, and there is little benefit to modifying or changing it. In other words, I wouldn't modify what's already there unless I was getting some mild performance benefit from it.

I am indifferent toward faux materials for cosmetic looks only, to include brushed aluminum, carbon fiber, etc. I am of the thought that function is more important than form.

That being said, we are all entitled to our opinions, and there is no need to be a d!ck when someone disagrees with yours.

Please explain how I didn't make a valid point.

Unless you missed it, or just can't read, my point was that I think the time & money would be better spent on something that offers more benefit to the car rather than a minimal cosmetic change to the interior.

Furthermore, I wasn't "talking trash" in any way, shape, or form. I was offering my opinion/suggestion, which, last time I checked, was the purpose of this forum.

Funny guy. Again, those were on the car when I bought it. And again, everyone can make their car their own, but if someone is asking for opinions, we each can provide our advice.
