Truth about Overdrive

Be been asking around to other mustang owners and all of they're stories seem to vary about driving with or without overdrive. So once and for all someone PLEASE clear this up for me. Which is best for the car on or off! I heard it should automatically turn on and off by how hard I press the gas, but my car only switches when I hit the button on the shifter. I drive currently with it always on..... Don't wanna destroy the car

Overdrive "on" makes the motor turn less revolutions or a lower RPM rate which helps the motor and saves on gasoline. So, the answer your question, yes.. It's less stress on your motor..

Re: Truth about Overdrive

Turning OD off will prevent your car from shifting into fifth gear. This good for acceleration, bad for fuel economy and wear.

Re: Truth about Overdrive

overdrive is just another transmission gear, nothing more nothing less. Its just another name for the final gear. Just as 1st gear is to 2nd
