Depends.. Who is the car for? How long do you plan in keeping it? What is the car going to be used for?

No... Hp does not equate to being as fast... There is allot more that comes to play... Seeing a badass v6 is like meeting a super sexy girl... Then realizing it's a distant cousin

Stock compared to stock. The new V6s are just as fast as ours... That is a fact..

I beg to differ... I'm hitting 26+ mpg w mods and 93 octane "race" tune and the sixers in the local club I'm in see about the same if not less depending on the driver

The new v6 might be better than mine
But put me in a 5.0 w a 6 speed against a new 6 and I'll hit same if not better mpg... I baby the Piss out of these cars... And I took notes from the top gear episode when Clark got amazing mpgs on purpose to prove hybrids suck

Yea some what but it has more to do w when and when not to apply more or less power depending on inclines and declines...

I'm in sales so I do a ton of traveling ... Company pays for my gas,oil... Ect however because I bought a Stang they made sure I kept the mpg above 20 (city and Highway) due to economy and cash flow

I have to be very smart about driving and or mods...

Makes things difficult, that's why I plan on getting a 6 speed so I can change out the 6th gear w a gear like what's in the ls1 camaros (75 mph @ 1200 rpms) that way I can get more power an not lose mpg... If that's even possible it's just a thought I've done no research on wether or not u can do that... Wait I'm going to start a new thread

I would think a lot has to do with your friends preference to which body style he or she likes better. 05-09 or 11 plus. Personally I'm not a fan of the 05-09 rear end. Just doesn't do it for my preference. I love the look of the 10 plus bodies over the 05-09. Either way its a win win. Both are awesome cars. The V8 does have the nice rumble that a V6 doesn't. But buy a Flowmaster exhaust system for the 11 sixer and that true dual exhaust has a bad a$$ growl.

Also, for many the v6 models will be cheaper on yearly insurance premiums. Of course this depends greatly on ones age, however typically the sixer is less on insurance.

Totally agree the 05-09 Gt has a far greater potential to achieve higher hp and torque numbers than the sixer but if one is not trying to push 600 hp in either car, then who cares about the Gt moding potential. Even the 11 plus v6 models you can easily get 475 to 500 hp out of them with a handful of mods.

I faced the same question 3 months ago. Went on a test drive for both in oct 11. After the test drive, the choice was simple for me. A lower mileage 08 GT/CS over the 11/12 V6

+1. Also, for some reason insurance companies rate cobras cheaper than gt's, just a little over v6s... Like with usaa, the difference in a 04 v6 and a 04 SVT cobra is only like $120 extra a year(only $10 a month more)

I test drove both. Ended up with an 07GT. The new v6 doesnt start pulling real hard until about 3500-4000 rpm. The GT pulls hard immediately. All about torque to me. And the rumble of a v8 is irreplaceable IMO. Even my 06 V6 pulled harder from a stop than the 11 v6. The top end is where its at for the sixes. Stock to stock, GT will win every time.

Re: 05-09 Gt vs the new V6 mustang

a GT...acceleration is not about HP but torque(with same gear ratio)..
So we are talking about with almost the same high end HP, comparing 275 lb-ft(2011 V6) with 320lb-ft(05-09 GT), the GT is literaly pulling harder. But in fact, the Gt still pulls harder.

2011 v6 has 280 torque. Just saying. The 05-09 Gt will pull harder but time wise your talking 2 to 3 tenths faster. Not a big difference in time. For that little time difference, I would take the new 12 v6 over a pre owned higher mileage 05-09 GT.

If his friend would keep the car stock, I agree with ya.. If he would mod the car, then we are talking about a whole different thing then..

They already tested it, the new v6 vs the 05-09 gt and the gt won not by much tho. So stock vs stock the gt is still a bit faster. I'll try and find the video it's on youtube

The GT will respond more to mods than the six will.

I totally agree that the 05-09 Gt would have a faster time. Gt would pull ahead. If one is looking to do some serious mods then a Gt is the way to go. If one is looking to leave stock or cai and tuner, light mods, the 11 plus sixer is a close second to the 05-09 Gt.

Though the 2011+ V6 would make for a good car to mod for AutoX events!...

Less weight!..

Unfortunately no the new v6 wouldn't do as well as you think because it's classed with not only the old 4.6's, it's classed with the new 5.0's...So stock for stock & mod for mod, the GT's will still win, especially the new 5.0's...

Though at least depending on the course design, the 4.6 S197 can be competetive against the 5.0's depending on driver skill and things...
